Redemption update is at end of this review.
So, we had dinner here on Friday January 18, 2019. Ordered pretzels for 4 (economicaly good choice for two to have 2 to go) Odouls is not an option from the bar neither is san peligrino. So I ordered sweet tea and the lady an Appletini. Tea more like hummingbird food so ordered water with lemon. Entrees, she ordered the shrimp and grits without mushrooms and I the J Butlers sirloin MR baked potato and steamed vegetables. The cook had to make the grits fresh so was gonna be a 20 minute wait.! Not a problem for fresh food right? well obviously the grits did not have time to set to a grit cake as per the descriptive copy of the menu, that's cool tho but it was LOADED with mushrooms to which the cook told the manager there were none. We put a couple on the side so she could show him and that was taken off the bill. The lady ordered a chicken caeser instead. Of course I already had my steak. The potato looked as if it was sitting in a steam drawer since opening and the steak was way over cooked and tough! ! One end medium the other medium well with charred outside. Steamed vegetables. meh. Carrots and broccoli. Baby carrots cut in half length wise and brown skin on a few of them. Not a lot of flavor there. The chicken caeser came and it was packed to go, the intention was to eat it there so it had to go back to be replated. During this time, I also helped myself to a second glass of water since it was never refilled. The waitress and manager were pleasant and apologetic for the shoemaker of a cook who never does wrong. The pretzels and shrimp and grits were taken off the bill and a second Appletini was offered but declined. We were seated near the door so were hit with a few cool breezes. Not always a big deal, but one waitress went out front twice to smoke. Also cool, until it (the heavy smell of smoke) followed her back in, that was not cool. Overall a very poor experience but it has always been a hit and miss here. A miss when that shoemaker of cook is on duty. I wish I knew his name so we could call ahead and just not go that night. I left a not on the back of our bill "To the cook. You sir are a shoemaker. Chef Robert!
So, I must declare, the mamager of J. Butlers did respond to the above review to request I call to discuss our experience. Took me a while I admit, but I am a busy guy. And we played phone tag some nut felt the team was very eager to to address our experience. We were offered a complementary meal. Wow, was not expecting all that but we took them up it. No appetizer this time although the pretzels were not bad before. To be fair we ordered the same entrees. Shrimp and grits cake and the J.Butlers sirloin M.R. Chef Charles!!! A job well done sir. Clearly on point across the board and our waitreas was very friendly. We had the brownie dessert and fresh coffee. Very nice presentaion and again on point. Chef Charles even came to the table to apologize fpr the last visit which I greatly admire and appreciated his obvious and humble beginnings. With work like that, you are a fine chef indeed. Thank you!!!! We shall dine there again and a big shout out to the manager and staff for reaching out. Sincerely,...
Read moreJust left and barely pulled out of parking lot, and would give negative stars if i could, $50 meal and left 0 tip. Very horrible service, forgot gfs lemons with water, forgot lemons for shrimp, thats all ok, ordered a bowl of soup as an appetizer and waitress assumed i wanted it to replace my rice with teriyaki chicken (which she took upon herself) , brought food out i asked about rice and was told she just assumed i wanted the soup to replace it even though she charged me full price for bowl of soup, this is at 945 i asked for my rice, at 10 she brings ticket ( havent even seen my rice so i had barely ate anychicken waiting on it, at 10:08 paid and asked about my rice again, and she walked thru the restaurant hollering at the cooks wheres my rice 4 times, had to ask her for to go boxes to put my uneaten food in, mind you all while my gf has finished her meal, no asking if to go cups wanted or how was anything or refils.... just horible service to be honest and i own my own business and if my guests were treated like that someone would be fired..... if anyone wants to contact me and ask who i am or who the waitress was feel free, but very much not impressed or very unhappy and will share this experience being as my company does work in high point and archdale ALOT, just finished a job at the new carolina drug store opening across from pioneer. And btw if your reading this, this is the first time i have ever reviewed any business definitely never felt the need to negatively review a business. Read moreOkay it was really pretty in there and it was nice it was me and my mom who is a Caucasian lady and me who was a mixed girl you know I'm black and white I was the only brown skin that person that I saw in there and it kind of felt like the woman was trying to rush us out of the restaurant but she was doing it in a nice way whenever we would ask to order something that you have to go I don't know if these people are racist or not so I can't actually call them that but it just made me feel uncomfortable the food was really good though the fish was amazing and but the chips were a little bit hard but Shirley temples were good. I'm just saying it really felt like she was trying to get me and my mom to leave but she was nice and we gave her a tip anyway I'm just saying you might want to tell your servers to be nicer to brown-skinned people or they're going to come off as racist or at...
