Chai's Thai is a family run restaurant tucked away in the far corner of a typical mall on Route 69. Go there! We think it's well worth the drive, even through the hundreds of blinking road construction lights that currently annoy everyone. (Summer/Fall, 2025) Seriously, find Chai's Thai despite the road challenges.
Three gentle, kind women are in charge and graciously greet everyone as they enter. The decor is not very inspired, but the food...Oh the food!! We lived in New York City where restaurants have to be the best of the best to stay in business. Asian cuisine is plentiful. How does Chai's compare? Their food would be in the top 5% but without the lavish prices.
We like everything, but our favorite appetizer choices are crab rangoon, fried wantons, coconut shrimp, crispy tofu and tempura.
Our favorite entrees are the curries (Massaman!) and the house specials. Our very favorite is Tamarind Duck with crispy shallots. It's the best Thai dish from California to Boston.
Chai's serves several Asian bottled beers, typical Thai beverages and American sodas (pop). Service is good--meaning it is not rushed but not slow--and parking is easy. Gentle Thai music plays in the background. The restaurant is especially clean. (Yay!) Plates come with chopsticks or American tableware.
Chai's does a brisk takeout business. Judging from the personal greetings, there are many satisfied,...
Read moreUsually my only reason for going to the mall. I'm not very adventurous when it comes to food, so my first time here I just ordered a plate if chicken fried rice. It is hands down the best thing I've ever put in my mouth. I could eat it for the rest of my life, if I was on death row it would be my last meal. Every time I go, I tell myself I'll try something different, but that chicken fried rice is just too good. They're portions are awesome too, lots of bang for your buck. Whenever I try to "just eat half" the little devil on my shoulder laughs and says, "yeah that's cute, you're going to enter a food coma now." They closed for two or three weeks at one point to go on vacation, and it was the saddest, loneliest, most tasteless point of my life. I can't say enough about this place. My only complaint is that it's in a mall food court. And even that complaint is half hearted, because when I come here it gives me a reason to shop at what few stores are left.
Addition: I saw another reviewer complain about a 20 minute wait, with only one other couple before them. They make everything to order, and by "they" I mean there is one singular cook in the back, making each dish separately, sometimes on occasion two. She has pride in her food, so she takes the time to get it right. If you want fast food, go...
Read moreMy daughter and I tried the new location today for lunch. The food was hot and in good consistency. We ordered, pad thai, no spice for my daughter, Pineapple fried rice, tom yum in coconut sauce, and shrimp blanket (egg roll shrimp) I only give 4 stars because of the server assigned to us has a very long hair that is braided lose, it almost touches the food while she's serving us. The other server is in pony tail but still some hanging in the side face. I'm very critical with female servers and the hairs going to the food. I cook at home and always put my hair up (secured) so that it won't go to the ingredients or to the food I'm cooking. I was gonna tell the server about it but the place is starting to get busy and it's only 2 server that time. I don't want to spook other customer. I will give them another chance because I love Thai Food and supporting local business. Also, they just open so I'm giving them a chance...
