My friend and I went there after work for lunch because we try to try new restaurants from time to time. Both of us were not impressed in the slightest with the food, and the staff on hand made no attempt to do more than charge us for the meal and set it down on the table.
My friend had the 12" pepperoni pizza while I had the Tuscan soup and a bowl of pasta shells with a SINGLE meatball in it. Having had most of the chain restaurants pizza as well as about half a dozen local digs, he described the pizza as not bad but definitely not worth what they were charging for it. My Tuscan soup was good but no better than the soup they sell at Safeway and tasted almost the same. The pasta dish was quite small with nothing differentiating the pasta shells from the hard shells sold at a normal supermarket. The red sauce was a saving grace which had a good tomato flavor without being overly thick and pasty, but I was quite frustrated that as someone who likes a meat sauce that a single 1" diameter meatball was supposed to suffice for the whole bowl. The bread that came with the pasta was equally as bad and resembled a dinner roll from a buffet chain.
I know neither one of us will eat there. It might just be the Broadway location that is this bad, but both of us agreed that the food, the staff, and the general atmosphere of the place was pretentious and faux-artsy without having anything substance behind. If I had a half off coupon, I might go back once, but there is nothing that makes this place go any further...
Read moreSauce has been a favorite through three boyfriends! And not just quick relationships, years. Why am I mentioning boyfriends? Because Sauce is a fantastic first date location. It's counter service, but it's very classy counter service.
It's also great months or years into the relationship when one or both of you are indecisive about what to do for dinner. "How about Sauce?" has always been the ultimate answer to hours of deliberation.
Sauce is even great for break ups! Eat24 makes online ordering a breeze and sauce's pizza, pasta, salads, sandwiches, etc pair well with broken hearted Netflix binges. Netflix and chill? Nah, I prefer Netflix and Sauce's Fig & Prosciutto.
My brother and his wife also tell me that Sauce is great even when you make it to parenthood. Their two kids have loved Sauce since they first started solids. Plus, it's an affordable, fancier option for a family on a tight budget.
The only warnings I have are: the caramelized onions are VERY caramelized. I think this is a feature, but ex #3 did not care for them at all.
Second, and this is very important for my brother and sister-in-law to read (any parents, really), they put the CHOKE in artiCHOKE. Every time I've ordered artichoke hearts on my pizza they've been cut a bit too long. I personally enjoy the large size (even though I DID choke on one one time), but it's wise to cut them a little smaller if you're serving to little kids or anyone with...
Read moreI was very disappointed. First I was given a hard time for sitting at a table while waiting to meet a friend. Then I place an order for their $29 Summer Special, pizza, salad and 2 glasses of wine. I told the cashier that I had never ordered a pizza before and I asked which pizza was included with the special. She told me I could any predetermined pizza OR create my own. So I did the create my own. There was people behind me very rude cause I asked questions so I felt pressured to complete this order. I paid and sat down. When I left I realized that I had been charged almost $40 for a $29 special...REALLY! Oh and I asked for avocado on the salad and there was only 3 little square pieces so the extra I paid for this was RIDICULOUS!! I was charged for all kinds of topping on the pizza which was CRAZY. When a customer specific tells you that they have never ordered an item before and asks for explanation on how to do it, it needs to be more that "any pizza" especially if there is limitations!!!. I always get salads here but after this experience I am not sure if I will go back or not. This was a RIP OFF!!!!!! SO BEWARE!!!!! The cashier needs to trained how to answer customers questions appropriately. The only reason I gave 2 stars was the taste was OK for the food, not great and VERY SKIMPY salad and the girl that cleared tables was VERY...
