I have been a loyal customer of Beyond Bread since 2001, frequenting all three locations and consistently recommending it to others for its exceptional sandwiches, high-quality coffee, and delicious pastries. Unfortunately, the experience I had today was deeply disappointing and has changed my perception of this once-beloved local establishment.
Over time, I’ve noticed a decline—not just in food and beverage quality, but in cleanliness, atmosphere, and staff professionalism. The facilities feel outdated, and the bathrooms were unclean and poorly maintained. But what truly prompted me to write this review was the unacceptable behavior of a manager during my recent visit to the Oracle and Ina location.
I was there with international colleagues for a working lunch and ordered a soy latte. Upon tasting it, I immediately realized it was made with full-fat dairy milk. Concerned, I politely brought this to the attention of the gentleman at the front, who identified himself as the manager, Alex Finier. He consulted the staff and returned to tell me it was oat milk. However, when I later asked the young barista directly, she admitted it was, in fact, made with full-fat milk.
I asked if a new one could be made with plant-based milk, and she explained that they were having issues with the machine. When I expressed my concern to the manager, hoping for some understanding, his response was dismissive and defensive. He implied it was my fault for not being clear enough and ended the conversation abruptly—as if the matter wasn’t worth further attention.
When a customer specifies a non-dairy milk—especially given dietary restrictions or allergies—it is not a small oversight. It is a matter of respect, health, and professionalism. And when a $7 latte is made incorrectly, a courteous and solution-focused response should be the bare minimum.
What shocked me most was not the mistake, but the complete lack of accountability or care from the manager. His tone and demeanor were condescending, unhelpful, and frankly unacceptable. This is not how loyal customers should be treated, and it certainly does not reflect the standards that made Beyond Bread such a beloved local brand.
I should add that there is another gentleman who works there—also named Alex, with a ponytail—who is the complete opposite of the manager. I have interacted with him for several years, and he is consistently helpful, respectful, and an absolute pleasure to speak with. He represents the kind of customer service that builds long-term loyalty. If you are looking to promote within, you might consider choosing your managers from those who demonstrate true class and respect for customers.
Regretfully, I will not be returning to any Beyond Bread location. I hope the management reconsiders how they train and empower their staff—and especially their leaders—before more loyal customers make the...
Read moreOK, I've been living in Tucson for 6 years. I would say, Beyond Bread is a good place to enjoy your bread, soup, and sandwich. Yes, Beyond Bread is good but not this place. Here is my reason. I went to this site a couple of days ago. I ordered two sandwiches and mac and cheese for my kid. The sandwiches are not bad. Well, those were salty. But the Mac and cheese was worse. It was burn and so dry and salty, and my baby couldn't handle it. How was it salty? OK, do you know feeling like tingly on your tongue? What I say 'salty,' is That salty. She kept drinking water and only eating garlic bread. What it got worsen was when my baby pick mac and cheese, I noticed a small shiny thingy on her spoon. It was a piece of plastic in my kid's mac and cheese. I am normally not easy to be upset about that thing. So I brought it to a counter and showed it a lady who was a manager. Shockingly what she said was "Oh, it's just a plastic from the cheese, do you want another one? hahahaha...." Hummm, I don't know you but, I expected her to say to me "oh, I'm sorry." THAT'S IT! What I expected was just saying 'I'm sorry,' not "another one, hahahaha...." Moreover, it was not in my sandwich. It was in my 22 month old baby's! Anyway, I went back to my table and talk to my wife about what I felt. She said we did not need another mac and cheese and what we need was just apology. I found another guy standing at the counter. I went there and asked him if I could talk to a manager. He said he was. So I talk to him what I thought. The guy did not say anything but showed his face like "so what?" So, I told him what I wanted was not another mac and cheese but apology. Now his face was like 'what an annoying guy....' and he reluctantly said 'I'm sorry." Then, a few minutes later, we had another one. I tasted it, and it was salty dry and rubbery again. Don't get me wrong. I like Beyond Bread, but not this site. So, if you want a good sandwich, go another Beyond Bread,...
Read moreI had a deeply disappointing experience that I feel compelled to share. My husband, our baby, and I went to pick up an online order placed over an hour earlier, expecting a quick and seamless curbside pickup. Unfortunately, the reality was far from that. Upon arrival, I parked in the designated curbside spot—the only parking available—and waited with my baby, in the truck. The sun was beating down, making the wait uncomfortable for us. After waiting over 30 minutes, my husband was inside waiting on the order, only to be told they hadn’t even started preparing it when he asked. No approximate wait time was provided initially, and the staff seemed indifferent to my inquiry about when it might be ready. To make matters worse, they initially handed him someone else’s order, which he only realized after checking the contents. The lack of organization and communication was astonishing for an online order that should have been prepared well in advance. We had no choice but to cancel the order entirely after wasting so much time. The staff’s lack of urgency, poor communication, and failure to prioritize a pre-placed order made this experience incredibly frustrating. I would not recommend for anyone seeking reliable service, especially for families with young children who rely...
