I came in to order to-go today, and it was my first experience at the restaurant. The staff were very friendly, and everything looked neat and clean.
It is really hard, in my opinion, to find a lot of moderately-priced options to eat fresh fish in Arlington. Since I have trouble digesting red meats, having different protein options is super helpful -- and this place perfectly fills a dietary void I'd been struggling with lately! The portion size was just where I like it, personally -- fair and not 'Murica-sized. The fish was fresh and flavorful, and the toppings were delicious. It was incredibly convenient to order; they assemble the bowls in front of you (like Subway, so to speak). I was in and out in less than ten minutes with two bowls.
I got a regular bowl with hamachi and hawaiian ahi tuna (splitting the base with white rice and salad). I topped it with masago, avocado, ginger, seaweed salad, and cucumber -- then added their house soy sauce, spicy mayo, and sesame seeds. It left me incredibly full but without the heavy feeling associated with eating a lot of oily foods. I literally ran, like ... three more errands afterwards. (They also had fried onions and wasabi available on the condiments island. Just FYI.)
I appreciate that they've chosen to close on Sundays in order to maintain the freshness of their fish (due to their delivery schedule). Also, while some may complain about the limited choice in toppings, I am perfectly content with the ten items they offer and would prefer that they keep it that way. More toppings means that product could sit longer on the line and age (or spoil and have to be throw away), so I hope they maintain their selection. Also, if their portion sizes used to be larger, I'm glad that's changed, as well. I'd rather they were making a profit and staying in business rather than trying to compete with oversized portions. For what I ate today, $9 was exceedingly fair. So long as they maintain the quality that I experienced on my first visit, I will continue coming...
Read moreIf you haven't been to Ahi Poke yet I dont know what you are doing with your life, I really don't!
First of all my wife is a Japanese local from Honolulu so I know Poke. I also know food and its hard to get good quality and variety in Arlington tx without being a big sushi restaurant. I was pleased to find the quality of freshness of the fish. It was on par with a good Texas sushi establishment!
Setup, think chipotle but with fish instead. Step 1. You pick white or brown rice.
Step 2 . your choice of poke- cubed raw fish (think sashimi cubed, thats poke) such as shoyu ahi (tuna marinated in soy sauce) salmon, marlin, octopus, yellow tail, tofu even fried salmon for the trepidacious.
Step 3. Toppings, up to five! Generous! Crabmeat, cucumber, masago fisheggs, ginger, jalapeño, green onion, seaweed salad, avocado. Cant double up on options dont be greedy, be adventurous!
Add a shoyu sauce, spicy mayo like at sushi places or spicy sauce.
Sooo good!
They sell fruit sodas you can only find on the island so try the guava or lilikoi or passionfruita. ofcourse they have coconut water and soda and water.
Poke in texas? Sign me up. It didnt taste like it was from texas! Was great, filling. And guilty free in terms of health, brown rice helps the carb content, else its perfect!
Try it. Youll love it if youre a...
Read moreThe options for fish here are pretty good. I liked that they had several kinds of tuna, as well as popcorn shrimp and tofu. Those are two I haven't seen at any other poke place in DFW. When it came time to order my protein, I ordered my first, not seeing that there was three pieces of that particular fish left. The man scooped what was left and put it on my bowl. I thought maybe this was a normal portion, so I didn't say anything. I ordered my second protein only to see the difference in portions. Then as we waited for toppings, more of the fish I had ordered first came out. I had hoped they would put a little more, but perhaps they had added more of the second fish as compensation.
There are an array of options for toppings, leaving me wishing for a few more options. I looked for Furikake but didn't see it as an option anywhere. That being said, I thought I heard someone in line order some. So maybe ask.
The ambiance is that of a casual local establishment. There's Hawaiian music, a painted mural of a shark, and the people will typically welcome you with an 'aloha'.
The taste was good, the fish were fresh. I enjoyed the sauces as well. Would like to come back for...
