I wish this review was a joke like the manager seemed to think it was. I have celiac and am completely gluten free. I am traveling for work and staying in the area. This restaurant has a gluten free menu which would lead me to believe they have training and can handle such an allergy. I talked with my waiter, who was very nice and helpful about my options as I'd never been to a rockfish before. I decided to have mahi mahi tropical style with rice and broccoli. My food arrived and looked good but the fish was very dry. I asked for some tartar sauce and the waiter was unsure if it was safe or not so he went to verify. He returned and told me it was not gluten free and apologized that there was no sauces available to me except Sriracha. So I did my best to eat this extremely dry fish but left probably a third of it on my plate and gave up.
This is where it gets wild. The manager comes by and says "so I hear it's your first time in, how was it?" I hesitated and he said now tell me the truth, so I said told him the fish was dry and difficult to eat without tartar sauce and asked what about the tartar sauce made it not gluten free. He immediately laughed and proclaimed that he'd told the waiter that as a joke and it definitely is GF through his laughter. He then gave me a card for a free dessert, (none of which can I have, read your audience here people) and left. No offer to get me sauce to finish my meal, nothing.
The way he laughed made me feel like food allergies are a joke to him. It's not a joke. This is my life and he's making fun of it because he can. They still brought me the full bill, which whatever I know food isn't free but you deliberately tainted my experience for your entertainment. I was completely in shock and nearly in tears when I left over being laughed at by the manager for believing his "joke". I have no choice but to trust my waiter when they tell me something isn't safe for my allergy. I'll never be back or visit a rockfish again.
I hope my waiter, Bryan, finds a better place to work because he did everything he could to help me. His manager however found his nightly entertainment by tormenting his staff...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I went here for the first time on 3/29/16, responding to their heavily-advertised crawfish special at $4.99/lb. We had read some reviews here on Google and on Yelp and decided we'd give them a try. Plus, most places this year price crawfish between $6.99 and $8.99 so this sounded like a great deal.
When we arrived it was packed, of course. Went just after 6 PM. We were told it would be a 30- to 40-minute wait. Normally this would be something you'd expect on a Friday or Saturday night, but we knew it was because of the special and we expected it to be busy. We sat down and waited. However, after only about 20 minutes our buzzer went off and we were seated.
Without going into every detail, the crawfish was great. The only thing that threw us off was corn was NOT included. Only potatoes. Me, personally, have never been somewhere that serves crawfish and not potatoes AND corn with it. We were told corn was extra. Not sure if that's just for this one night or if that's the norm. Anyway, we declined to order the corn...lol.
When the crawfish was brought out to us we noticed we weren't given any silverware yet. Normally, one doesn't eat crawfish with silverware but we wanted some for our potatoes. Small oversight and not a big deal.
Overall our server was super-friendly and the service was quite fast, despite it being packed. Obviously they prepared for this special and were well-staffed. We've been to other places that either had a big sports game going on, or had a special, and they obviously didn't plan ahead in the staffing department...lol. So it was refreshing to see the service still up to par even though it was wall-to-wall customers there.
We will most certainly be returning in the future. Reviews on their other menu choices appear to be favorable and we intend on checking out their other...
Read moreDecent casual place on Cooper. Chalkboard/markerboard specials hung around the restaurant. Started with a drink and apps. THE FOOD: Ordered Jalapeno Hush Puppies and Traditional Mussels. The hush puppies were pretty good. Hardly any jalapeno flavor, and the remoulade was too sweet and more like a ketchup/tarter sauce mix. Just ok. Traditional Mussels in a garlic butter, white wine sauce with tomatoes and artichoke. The mussels were good. The bowl of soup/sauce was ok. My friend loved the sauce enough to use the mussel shell as a spoon to drink it, lol! For my entree, I had Mahi Mahi done Tropical Style which is lightly blackened, with two grilled shrimp and Mango salsa on white rice. It was a very good dish, plenty of flavor, fish done very nicely. This came with 2 sides, which I got a loaded potato and roasted Brussel sprouts. The loaded potato I barely recognized as a potato. It's precut and "loaded" with bacon, Sour cream and green onions. The bacon was tasteless, barely any sour cream and I would say garnished with some onion. Hardly what I would call "loaded", including the potato side. The "roasted Brussel sprouts " were bad. Including NOT being roasted. I would say boiled. When they are roasted you get black char on some leaves and the roast flavor . These were not those. One Brussel ( I left) was a little black (rotted) inside (see photo)
My friend had a shrimp po-boy which he said was good, but I noticed (being from New Orleans) the bread is wrong. It was on a soft Italian style roll. A po-boy should be crusty bread on the outside, with soft bread inside. Anyway, this is a decent place with ok food, nothing great. But...
