I’ve been to all of Gwenie’s Pastries locations in Rockville and Frederick, but I was thrilled when this Arlington spot opened—it’s the closest to me here in DC! I’ve already visited more times than the others because it’s so convenient, and it never disappoints.
Their donuts are amazing—soft, pillowy, and full of flavor. I’ve tried the ube, Nutella, pistachio, and mango, and each one was delicious. The fresh cream is perfect too—light, smooth, and not overly sweet. I’ve also had the pan de cocoa and Spanish bread, which were equally tasty.
The biggest surprise was the mocha cake—so moist and flavorful that I can’t believe I waited this long to try it. Definitely a new favorite!
If you’re in Arlington, especially near Costco, this is a must-stop spot—it’s right across the street. Their lattes are fantastic too (the Biscoff latte is dangerously good!).
Bravo to Gwenie’s for opening a location so close to home. I’ll be a regular for sure! The bonus is also having Lapu Lapu across the counter so I could try their...
Read moreI decided to do a quick stop today after my Costco run. At Gwenie’s I ordered, ube cake slice, ube cheese pandesal, sapin-sapin, a bag of pandesal and calamansi refresher. So far Ive eaten the sapin-sapin, ube cake and the ube cheese pandesal. I loved it. The ube cake was moist and perfect sweetness. The Sapin-sapin is also on point. Right amount of sweetness and chewy texture with of the rice cake is perfect. I just wish it had more toasted coconut on top. my mom and i split the ube cheese pandesal into half. And ate it that quick. The calamansi refresher is perfect to quench my thirst. I laso bought a corned beef sandwich at Lapu-Lapu’s. They literally share the same space. I was not disappointed. Though I must say $15 for a sandwich is a pretty pricey but its ok becoz the serving is quite big and plus nothing in DMV is cheap and you’re getting a yummy sandwich. Not your typical ones. All in all I loved this little quaint haven of Filipino goodness.
I wish...
Read moreI've only been to the sweets side so far, but already looking forward to coming back and trying more! Would get both the pandan doughnut and the ube bun again, but I have to talk about just how much I loved the doughnut.
I love jam- and cream-filled doughnuts, and my biggest complaint when going somewhere like Krispy Kreme is that there's NEVER enough filling. That wasn't the case here: the light, rich pandan cream was there from the first bite to the last. Not only that, but this is a hearty doughnut: the bread is fluffy but surprisingly filling, which I was pleasantly...
