My wife and adult daughter had been there for the lunch buffet and really enjoyed the food and service. Especially my daughter, who loves Indian food and raved about the place. My daughter and I decided to go for dinner on a night when my wife was out with her friends. Normally they serve the buffet at lunch and have menu service at dinner. On this night we were VERY lucky - it was their grand opening and they had the entire menu on buffet - even items like lamb and goat that are not served on the lunch buffet!! (The items on the lunch buffet rotate, it was explained to me on our visit. But some items are menu only.)
It's really hard to believe how delicious the food was. Everything I tried, from butter chicken to goat curry was well-prepared and absolutely delicious, with the exception, initially, of the tandoori chicken - it was dry, but rapidly replaced when I pointed it out to the friendly and attentive staff. The replacement round was great - juicy and flavorful! The buffet had a very wide and impressive selection of meats & chicken, vegetables, fish, sauces and preparations.
I do enjoy Indian food from time to time, but have never experienced it so delicious as here. There were several dishes with which I was familiar, and several more that I had never tried. My experienced daughter, familiar with everything presented, was extremely impresssed.
One of the issues many (including me) have with Indian food is the crazy heat level experienced at some restaurants, which at times obscures all of the flavor. We did not experience that here. Oh, the food was spicy, alright. But nothing that overwhelmed or made us gulp water for relief. Perhaps this is a function of one reviewer's suggestion that the seasoning leans toward the Nepalese, which has less heat. Either way - we were lucky to have been there to experience the fine food and truly excellent service, and will be regular customers. The drinks (cocktails) were also very good and reasonably priced.
Of all the dishes I tried (about 15 in all, I would guess) the Goat Curry was the standout for me. Highly recommended! But if you aren't familiar, goat has a lot of oddly shaped bones, so don't be surprised. Just ignore the bones and delight in the succulent and flavorful meat and sauce! This dish will be on my table the next...
Read moreThis is the same excellent Herbs that we went to in Hurst. The one in Hurst is still there, under new management. I preferred the food under the original management. So, here it is. Closer to Mansfield too.
The one in Hurst is named “Herbs Indian Cuisine;” the one in Arlington is named “Herbs Indian Restaurant and Bar”. I already did a review of the one in Hurst. So, this review will sound repetitious.
Although the name of the restaurant says Indian, it’s not true. It’s Nepalese. The staff wear shirts that confirm that. Nepal is a small country northeast of India, high up in the Himalayas.
How does Nepalese food differ from Indian? One difference is that Nepalese food avoids cream or sugar. Another difference: Nepalese do not puree or mash their vegetables. They cut and stir-fry them, leaving a crunchy texture.
I loved it. The spices weren't as strong as in Indian cuisine. It tastes more flavorful. Not as heavy either. I read there is no baking in Nepalese cuisine. Yet, the flatbread they served was fresh and delicious.
My wife and I dined there with another couple. We all had the lunch buffet. Everything tasted so good. This must be the best-value Indian-style buffet in town. The staff are the nicest you’ll find anywhere.
The one in Hurst is popular. This one in Arlington deserves more customers. It’s just a matter of time. My wife and I recommend it...
