What about Kabab? (Bill Murray movie reference, for those too young to remember)
Sometimes a crush will tickle your senses. Sometimes a crush will make you smile just thinking about it. Sometimes the taste of a crush stays on your lips long after you've parted.
Kabab Crush fulfills all that & more!
Across the street from the Los Cerritos Center on the corner of Gridley & 183rd, Kabab Crush dishes out "A Taste of the Mediterranean" in a quaint restaurant. Here, food is made to order, so while that means the dishes are fresh, the wait times can be a little longer than desired.
With a hefty appetite in tow, I decided on the beef kebab combo plate, with choice of 2 cold appetizers & choice of garlic or tahini sauce- Chunks of filet mignon, rice, grape leaves, baba ghanouj, pita bread & garlic sauce. The filet mignon was succulent & tender, easily cut with a plastic disposable knife. Pink on the inside, I would've preferred the chunks even more rare. A hefty bed of rice lay under the filet mignon, which was moist & fluffy. The grape leaves were okay at best. Stuffed with rice & spices, I probably would forego these next time for, perhaps, a Mediterranean salad or hummus. The baba ghanouj was cool & creamy. A little bit more brightness coming from the eggplant would've made it perfect for me. Finally, the garlic sauce was a glob of greatness. Perfect dipping sauce for absolutely everything, it was strong & it was lasting. I could taste it for awhile afterwards. I can't say it's the strongest garlic sauce I've had. If memory serves me correctly, Falafel Shack had the strongest garlic sauce in the area. However, it was a beautiful thing.
Seating for around 30-40 people, with al fresco dining available. 2 flatscreens for viewing. 1 was off during my visit, but the other 1 was playing Arabic music videos.
Service was good. It seems to be a true mom n' pop operation. An older gentleman was the cook, an older woman was taking orders and, I'm assuming, their son was picking up the slack as needed. About a 15 minute wait for my order to be ready, which can be a good or bad thing, depending upon how you look at it, considering how others mentioned waiting 30 mins +. I'd say it was worth it. Call ahead if you're pressed for time.
Parking is in the Salo Salo Grill plaza. More parking available on the right side, if needed.
Kabab Crush is yet another fine eatery in my local area. The food's affordable, filling & just plain delicious. As long as you're not pressed for time, then come here & enjoy some music videos before you're delighted to a delectable dish of Mediterranean food. Bon appetite!
Highly...
Read moreThe family that used to work and run this restaurant focused on customer service as much as the quality of every single morsel of delicious food they served. Never once did we look at our burned falafel or soured tahini sauce never once did any family member insult embarrass or verbally abuse us. We never once took a bite of crunchy raw potatoes or came to pick up a large family order only to be told 45 minutes later that at 2:15 there was no pita bread left and that none would be made. Never once did we arrive place an order and wait 40 minutes while there were only 2 already seated and eating customers...while watching the owner on his cell phone very angrily pacing back and forth in front of the restaurant and the pretty girl at the counter leaning on the register and glued to her cell phone..there used to be every worker in the shop working not just one little mexican lady carrying huge pots while another man worked the grill and the other 3 men including the owner walking right past this worker poor lady. I never once had what should have been refrigerated tahini or hummus or garlic sauce handed to me from under the cash register shelf where it had become fermented and garlic sauce with clear surface of being left out too long. We never were yelled at for asking for one that was not rotten...having eaten the food prepared with love by the family that used to be here and started this place off right...we have been trying to support that family by trying to come back here and there despite the night and day difference...we now have a system, if one of us drives by and peeks our head inside and we see the family when they come visit the store we are so happy because that is the day we are going to taste Kebab Krush in all of its delicious heavenly perfection...made with love not degrading insulting woman hating verbally abusive volatile aggressive publicly humiliating owner. We used to go at least 3 to 4 days a week...now...once every couple of months ..if that..only when we see the original lovely pure kind loving souls and sweetest happy smiling faces that light up a room..we are missing the old Kebab..wish they could train the staff there now. We are headed into Anaheim tonight to try some new Kebabs. God bless and heal whatever is distracting and now degrading the level of quality that once crowned this the best place to eat next to your own mothers cooking but shhshhh even then sometimes we used to bring something from Kebab when the family was preparing the food. Truly as a sister I send you love and pray for us all during these most challenging times. We are all one...
Read moreFirst visit, and maybe the last. Was excited to find a place like this, but the excitement wore off pretty quickly when I arrived. Was greeted by the gal at the counter, but I think saying ‘hello’ took all her energy.
I ordered the chicken shawarma entree with hummus and a Med salad. I waited about 25 minutes for my order. I understand the food is made to order, but shawarma is already prepared, so not sure why the wait. There wasn’t anyone else in the restaurant. I waited for my order inside, but it was loud, stuffy, and warm. There was music playing in the dining area for ambiance, but the kitchen crew had music playing that was even louder. I was glad to see a patio was available as I needed the fresh air and quiet (yes, Gridley was quieter than inside the restaurant).
The food: hummus was okay; salad started out good, but the closer I got to the bottom, it got soggy and salty from sitting in a pool of dressing. The rice tasted oily, but balanced out the chicken, which tasted try and crusty. The pita seemed authentic. The meal was a really generous portion (it was $13), so I have enough leftover for a second meal, but I’m not sure I want to eat it again… tomorrow is another day...
