The Lacto-King visits the Dairy Queen for some Orange Julius.
BOGO coupon for Original Orange Julius or Smoothies.
Back in the day, I remember Los Cerritos Center had an Orange Julius. This was when the mall had a Time Out arcade, a trashy UA Twin theater, a Woolworth and a piano/organ store. I was uber cool, with my Stussy apparel, sunglasses with straps and velcro Pro Wings. Can't forget the Sun-In in my wavy locks, either ;p In all my years walking up and down the mall, I never had an Orange Julius. Was I missing something? Was my life incomplete?
Opening up my inbox and finding a BOGO coupon, I found another bucketlist moment - Try an Orange Julius.
Dairy Queen is across the street from Los Cerritos Center. Besides the usual DQ faves such as Blizzards, hamburgers and dogs, DQ also sells Orange Julius products.
I ordered 2 large original Orange Julius'. I asked the employee if it's like Orange Bang. He didn't know what Orange Bang was (really?), so I slipped on my food critic hat and had my first sips of this frozen, sugary concoction- Orange Icee is what came to mind. The texture was smooth, it wasn't overly sweet and was quite refreshing on this warm day. Like Orange Bang? No, unfortunately. Orange Bang is whipped, frothy and just that much more better. The price was good, though. Using my BOGO coupon, the damage including tax was $3.80. Not too shabby, frugal one!
Service was good, as I chatted fruit trees and Indian food with the employee. I owe him a Chico tree seedling ;p
The place was clean with tables for seating. The blenders are going non-stop, so not a place to catch up with a friend or get some studying done. The parking lot is a little on the small side.
Of course, the ice cream is what people go to DQ for. I'll be back, moreso for a Blizzard or ice cream than another Orange...
Read moreI placed an order (via DQ App) for two large Blizzards for delivery about a month ago. Unfortunately, when my opened my delivery bag, I received two small Blizzards instead. I filed a grievance with the Home Office and the owner left a voicemail a few days later stating I would receive free replacement if I showed up in-person. This location is too far for me to travel and I insisted on getting my compensation to use online. A couple of weeks passed and I contacted him (via texts) and told me to wait until the first week of September for him to get back from Vacation. We reached an agreement that if I placed a second order that he would do a full refund on top of getting my Blizzards too. So I did another order on the DQ App. Yet, the Door Dash driver (who was already at the location) called me to say the staff didn’t receive my order and has to tell her what kind of Blizzards that I wanted. The correct order was delivered a short while later. I text the owner my order number and he said a refund was issued to my Credit Card. A few days go by and I don’t see a refund on my account. So I contacted the owner again and said he would do another refund process and send me a screenshot of it (which he didn’t). Regrettably, it’s been over a week and my grievance hasn’t been resolved. Hence, you should steer clear of this location and either visit the Cypress or Garden Grove locations (since they never messed up on my previous orders) for your DQ cravings in the...
Read moreThe reason for a 1 star isn't because it was super busy or had a long wait, but it is because it was a bad performance compared to every other DQ location I've been to.
It was messy! There was ice cream splatter all over them, hair falling into places it shouldn't be, and residue all the front counters they were making our orders/giving them. No one was cleaning the visible messes at all.
They were not fulfilling the promise of turning the Blizzard upside down, neither honoring their guarantee if they didn't. The girl at the counter was also giving nasty looks, like we were an annoyance for just placing an order. The Blizzard was already melting before she gave it. :(
A customer took a lid to try to fit his Blizzard (cause they never ask if anyone wants a lid), though it was too big and he threw it back on the counter. His fingers were in that!!!! The girl at the counter sees it and then tries to reuse it for another customer. That was final straw. She is clearly in need of some mandatory training or getting a new job. YUCK!!!
I've worked in similar jobs when I was younger and totally understand it is hard when things are busy. They need better training and communication with each other, plus actually caring about hygiene, period. I will not come back to this location unless there is a guarantee that changes...
