I've never been to the San Gabriel location, but my friends and I came here this past weekend for Sunday dinner.
When we arrived there weren't too many people in the restaurant so we were able to have the place to ourselves almost. Yelp says they take reservations, but when I called, the guy said I didn't need reservations, to just come in.
Since it was our first time there, I asked them for some recommendations. They recommended some lamb dishes, the lamb kabobs, and the big plate chicken with noodles.
Of those recommendations, I loved the cumin lamb ribs that we ordered. It was DELICIOUS! I would give this plate five out of five stars.
Their big plate chicken with noodles were okay. Good, but I am not really a noodles person, so I wasn't attacking it like it was my last meal.
Their lamb kabobs were good but a little dry.
The egg and vegetable fried rice we ordered was pretty good.
Some of my friends thought the service here was a little harsh, but I thought it was fine. They were nice to me.
I would come back. Actually I am coming back. I'm bringing a friend who loves Mas Islamic in Orange County and I wanted to bring him here to try Omar's! Mas by the way is also good, but Omar's is also pretty good too!
Parking: Tons of parking here. It's a huge strip mall with lots of...
Read moreI had high expectations for this place, unfortunately I was underwhelmed. Although the food was decent, I would not recommend dining in. I was visiting from 2 hours away, and respected that they were not taking dine in orders so I asked for take out. They had tables outdoor so me and my family took a table so that we could eat there. However, when I was picking up the order, they would not give me cutlery, plates, or bowls for the food or soup, when I requested for to-go options for these things the cashier said that “it was too expensive to give out”. Eventually I was able to persuade her to give me scarce napkins and small paper plates (the small dessert kinds) and me and my family ate our meals on those. We only got 2 paper bowls for the four of us to share. Although this was odd, I accepted that this was their policy and remained respectful and we finished our meal. The food was decent. However, as we were finished up we saw a couple at the table behind us and they were given proper ceramic dining plates with metal cutlery and glasses for their drinks. I was outraged about the discrepancy of service and voiced my complaint to the cashier when she came out to serve them. She ignored me and walked back in. I will not be...
Read moreI have been coming here on and off with my family since this restaurant first opened some years ago. I no longer reside in the area, so when I happen to be visiting, I never pass up an opportunity for this incredible food.
Sitting near the corner of a rather nondescript strip mall is easily the best Chinese food in the greater Long Beach metropolitan area. This is a family run operation, so it doesn't get much better than this when it comes to supporting small businesses. Walk inside and you will be delighted - the interior is proudly decorated with symbols of their uighur heritage. True to form, the food is entirely halal so you won't find any pork on the menu. May I recommend the succulent and freshly prepared lamb dumplings dipped in a mix of two parts vinegar one part soy sauce? I've literally not had anything on a menu that I didn't enjoy. I'm partial to the uighur specialties but even their take on Chinese American classics such as Kung Pao chicken, fried rice, and beef and broccoli will leave you wanting more. Five stars, would give it...
