Chemist Spirits — Local services in Asheville

The Chemist is a must in Asheville. On approach, the exterior is immaculately maintained with a beautiful patio. We arrived prior to opening on a Saturday and while waiting noticed one of Chemist’s curators came out to take fresh herb clippings.

I highly recommend partaking a gin tasting in their tasting room - an extension of Chemist just next door. The knowledge shared during the tasing was quite an experience. We tasted all of the gin offerings including limited edition Conservatory Rose Gin which was available only in their tasting room. The tasting room is worth the wait!

Enjoyed our tasting experience - it’s pretty informal and free (choice of 4) so between my wife and I, we got to try them all. The spirits feel carefully made - which I see as mostly a good thing. All of the things we tried were remarkably smooth - and I think anyone with any pallet could handle the line without any fear. We like liquor with more pop to it - the navy strength gin fit the bill and we grabbed a bottle of that to go. I really enjoyed the barrel rested gin too - a very unique tasting gin that has been on my mind for two days… I should have grabbed that too.

Bad first impression! First, everything I seen online said open at 9am, went by at 9:30 and nothing was open. Second, when we did notice it was open we went by to check out the bottle shop but it was closed but the other side was open. I asked the person at the hostess station when the bottle shop was going to open and their response was "I don't know, you can get what you want at the bar" all while digging through their purse and never really being friendly or informative in any way and never looking up from digging through their purse. I was excited to try some spirits, but unlikely to come back based on this first...
