We were at our hotel down the street when we started looking for somewhere to go for dinner. After taking a look at reviews and the distance from the hotel, we decided to give this place a try since the weather wasn't so nice and didn't want to go too far. Our first visit was for dinner on August 1, 2018, but visited again on August 2, 2018.
Cornerstone Restaurant is located along Tunnel Rd. It's at the corner of Tunnel Rd. and the exit ramp onto I-240 West. The place is visible from the road. You can park in the front lot or the back lot of the business, but there is ample parking available, but some spots at the bottom of the hills pool with water pretty quickly with rainfall.
When we came in, the place wasn't too busy, but we were doing an early dinner, as it was before 4 pm when we came in. Seating was immediate and our server, Jen M., was at the table very quickly as well. After getting our drink orders, she asked if we had any questions about the menu and if ready to order. We weren't ready just yet since it was a nice size menu. When she came back, we weren't ready for the food order yet, but did order the Carolina Bacon Pimento Cheese appetizer. This item came out pretty quick and was actually quite good; so good in fact that we ordered one to go at the end of this visit due to knowing the bad weather coming the following day. After the appetizer came out, we were finally ready and I ordered the Stuffed Shrimp entree with homemade chips and macaroni and cheese. My mom had the Fettuccine entree with their Vegetable Soup. The Stuffed Shrimp were great. Living near the coast, I was able to tell that the crab meat wasn't filled with fillers in it. It was primarily crab meat, as one should expect. The homemade chips and macaroni and cheese were great as well. My mom said the Fettuccine was great as well, and she took the rest back to the hotel to have the following day. This was a great dinner experience, which ended up us coming back here a few more times before leaving the area.
With the good experience the prior night, and the rainy morning, the decision was made that we wanted something more than the hotel buffet, so we came back for breakfast. Service was just as good as the prior night. For breakfast, I went with their Brioche French Toast Extraordinaire. The extraordinaire portion adds bacon and eggs to the french toast. My mom went with the Farm Scrambles. This breakfast was excellent. Everything came out hot and fresh. The food and service were great once again.
Later that same day, it was time for dinner. The weather was still quite wet, and since this place is close to the hotel, the food has been great, and we wanted to try other items on the menu anyways, we came back a second time for dinner. Once again, we were immediately seated and our server was at the table within a few seconds of us being seated. We skipped an appetizer this time since we had the other appetizer from the night before as the lunch snack that afternoon. For this dinner visit, I went with the Chicken Santa Fe entree with homemade chips and macaroni and cheese as the sides. My mom got the Chopped Steak entree with mashed potatoes and tossed salad with homemade Greek sauce as her sides. Once again, the entrees came out nice and hot. They were very delicious and filling. The seasoning on the chicken and chipotle cream sauce were good as well. The avocado slices were good and a nice touch to the entree as well.
Overall, this place was excellent. If I am in this area again in the future, this will definitely be one of the places I'd come back to. In fact, on the day we were leaving, if we had more time, we would've stopped here for breakfast that final morning as well. If your travels take you to this area or live in the area, this place is totally worth...
Read moreWent with my father who is handicapped and doesn't walk very well. The hostess wanted him to attempt to walk to the back of the restaurant past at least a dozen empty tables. After finally agreeing to let him sit at a table closer to the front we were literally ignored for 15-20 minutes. Saw the next 3 groups, all with the same number of people, 2, get seated around us. Their waitresses came, got their drinks and orders etc. And we were still ignored. Eventually my father, who doesn't walk very well and uses a cane had to go to the kitchen to find a manager, who didn't believe no one had came by our table. As for the food, I ordered the calabash chicken, which came as you see sitting in a pile of grease, and macaroni and cheese. After sending the chicken back to have some of the grease removed it was average. The macaroni and cheese was below average and basically just a "cheese" sauce. My father ordered the chicken vosso, which he claimed was good even with the burnt bacon. Overall, I would not recommend this. It was a miserable dining experience and with so many other options in town I will not be going back.
Update! After 5 years, decided to try this place again. Somehow the service got worse! Asked for a table for 5 plus a baby who I said needed a high chair. After getting to our table no high chair was brought for the baby. After 15 minutes of holding a squirming baby we asked for a 3rd time for a high chair and it is eventually brought. We order our drinks, they come but 1 is missing. Not a huge deal, we tell our waitress. We place our orders and wait for the drink and our food. The food eventually comes, but we have to ask for the drink again. The baby's pancake was not fully cooked and still just batter in the middle. Asked for it to be cooked fully and it came back without the eggs that it left with. Not great. As we're finishing up, someone cleaning the table next to ours sprays my wife and I, the remainder of our food and drinks with the table cleaning solution. Including what my wife had intended to take with her as she still had 3/4 of her breakfast bowl left. This obviously was not a good dining experience. I will not...
Read moreMy parents and I stopped in to eat here for lunch yesterday and had a pretty unpleasant experience. We had one server come up and ask for our drinks. When dropping them off, she asked if we were ready to order, to which we responded that we needed another minute. She didn’t come back for a while and when she did she said “ my shift is over. The server that came in to take over was supposed to get your order but I guess she isn’t so I’ll take it”. A few minutes later, our new server came to introduce herself and fill drinks. We didn’t see her again until the food came out (after watching her drop one of our plates off to the wrong table, go back to get it after realizing her mistake, put it back in the window, then bring it to us anyways. Not to mention, our food sat in the window for a few minutes) When she dropped the food, one side item was wrong so she kindly replaced it but then asked if we needed anything and after we told her two (small) items, she seemed to get annoyed and started being rude and said “okay, and anything elseee?” And when we finished telling her, she proceeded to roll her eyes and walk away. She then returned with most of what we asked for except napkins. She made us feel very unwelcome and like we were a bother, so we didn’t graciously tip her as we normally would’ve. Generally, you aren’t supposed to pick up checks before customers exit because it’s considered rude but she did anyways (shocker). As we were leaving, she had her nose snarled in the air and looked at us, clearly with our check and the rest of the cash tip in her hand and shook her head and rolled her eyes so hard that I’m surprised they didn’t get stuck. I can’t remember her name because that’s the last thing I remembered about her but she is definitely in the wrong line of work. The food was all pretty good. The wings weren’t top tier, but edible. The homemade chips and cheese curds were kind of cold but tasty! The burger, Mac n cheese and chicken were great! Hate to have the place soiled by a...
