We have been trying owl bakery in N AVL a few times now, but somehow, it is not our bakery especially not after today's interaction. I tried to order 2 loafs yesterday via txt messaging, based on instructions on their phone and the menu on the website. Wanted to surprise my husband with the sesame spelt. When I came into the bakery this morning to get the bread, I made the statement that this was my first attempt with txt ordering and I was excited to find out how it worked. Out of the blue and very unexpected, I was met with an almost hostile sounding defense speech of: " We don't get txt throughout the day, so we don't know that you sent anything. We have no order from and for you. " " No spelt today. That was yesterday." Wow!!! I mentioned that the website stated Wednesday 's menu was for sesame spelt and hence I sent my reservation for Wed. yesterday. I was met with a bellowing: "We told our customers numerous times that the website menu is not correct." Almost like - why do you not know- stupid! I felt beyond uncomfortable and quite honestly, speechless! It was a really bad customer experience. When they two ladies behind the counter finally saw my helpless look, I was offered a paper menu to take home, so I could 'educate' myself. No thanks - not after this behavior! What was that??? I am still bedaffled and won't go back there for a long, long time. Instead, I bought an Alto and a San fran sourdough at Whole foods for half the price and remembered that my husband and I had tried the sourdough at Owl Bakery before and had wondered why we had paid so much money for a major hole in the bread. It was basically the crust and a bit of dough around a major hole. Not for us although we love local business and always try and support...

I stood in linear made my order. The girl told me there was only one item left that I wanted. I ordered it and she began to put my order together. There was a guy a couple of people behind me when he decided to walk past me and make an order. As the girl went to put my item is a bag the other worker came to and said that he was sorry that item was already sold. She apologized and would not give me my order. I told her that the item was purchased after I had already ordered it and in fact the guy who bought it had cut the line and took my order. The both of them stood there looking unsure of what to do. Needless to say the other worker literally took my pastry from her hand and gave it to the line cutter. This was my first visit ti this place and believe me it will be my last. I will further make sure to let everyone I run into in that area what kind of business they...

Whenever we are in Asheville to visit family,we stop here. We were a bit disappointed this morning when we ordered that the prices went up significantly higher for the croissants, and gf options. We ordered 2 ham and gruyere, 2 chocolate, 2 cardamom buns, 1 orange blossom poppy seed buns, 2 tiny gf chocolate cherry buns.$58! Once we got them home, we discovered no ham in one of our croissants and no cherries in the gf chocolate "buns" more like a ganache. Not happy considering how much they cost. I wish they would have more "regular" gf options; grain free prune square, earl Grey fancier. It would be nice if something with fruit , blackberries, blueberries, fruit would be offered as gf. Again, the parking is ridiculous, the counter help is not very friendly, no greeting, no thank you. Not sure we...

I came here every morning during my Asheville trip - really wonderful atmosphere and high quality pastries & drinks. I tried the almond rose croissant, savory babka, guava pastelito, cardamom bun, and poppy seed roll. The only things I wouldn’t get again were the poppy seed roll (the poppy filling was too overpowering and it was covered in salt flakes which didn’t match the flavor or texture profile) and savory babka (too salty, might’ve been better with half the amount of olives/filling). That said, everything else was top-tier. The special extras that made OWL Bakery a repeat, 5-star experience were: 1) Tea lattes. Very unique and inclusive of non-coffee drinkers. 2) Tidy, private, well-stocked bathroom (feminine supplies, extra TP, air freshener spray)

Looking for a European-style bakery in Asheville? OWL Bakery offers excellent products! The baguette is classic and authentic and full of the "old world" flavors they advertise. It's simply one of the best I've ever eaten. I can also recommend their Cardamon Bun: just enough sweet and salt and a subtle cardamon flavor. The lemon tarts were the only thing our guests could talk about after dinner one night. Go early as they get busy and may run out of favorites, but check the menus between the west and north locations, as some items are site-specific, e.g. those Portuguese lemon tarts are served at the west bakery.

The rosemary palmier are a reason to live! I hesitated to write this review, for fear that y’all would come in and buy all the palmiers, but I’m a generous woman, and there’s enough to go around. Also, seems like the word is out. I was talking to my hygienist today, in the dentist chair. We both live in North Asheville, and she asked me what I thought of owl moving in, and I told her how excited I was. She told me that the rosemary palmiers are her favorites as well. Everything was good, but these palmiers make this a destination bakery!
