TL;DR: A very tasty taco shop with excellent tacos al pastor and tacos cabo served on homemade corn tortillas! Full review: An excellent taco stop! We ordered 4 tacos: baja, cabo, americana, and al pastor. We ordered all four on their "heirloom corn tortillas," which were thick for tortillas but also very flavorful and complimented the flavors of the meats well. The tacos al pastor were of particular note, with very tender and flavorful pork topped with chopped tomatoes, onions, pineapple, and cilantro. The americana was the least interesting but definitely very tasty, with tender and well seasoned shredded chicken, cheese, shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes, and cilantro. The baja tacos were tasty with mild tasting fried fish strips topped with shredded cabbage, baja sauce, chopped tomatoes, and cilantro. My personaly favorite was the cabo, which had a full-bodied fish, cabbage, chopped tomatoes, and some sort of sauce. All went well with Valentina sauce and lime. We paired our tacos with the house margaritas, which we are half price on Mondays. The margaritas were pretty good but not amazing, and they complimented the tacos very well. The service was polite and professional, the wait reasonable, and the atmosphere casual- about what you'd expect of any taco stand worth its salt. We did see one of the servers chase a car down as it was leaving the parking lot in order to deliver a missed item. Going above and beyond!

While this place has potential, there are a few things that are REALLY wrong here. 1. the homemade corn tortillas crumble into pieces after the very first bite. Not fun to eat a taco with a fork. 2. the chicken in the americana “simple rotisserie chicken” taco tastes soooo bland and my friend mentioned it even tasted similar to canned swensons chicken 🤢. Simple food should have a lot have flavor if it’s done right. 3. the salsa has absolutely no kick at all. at least give us an option for spicier salsa! 4. the server got our order wrong AND our neighbors. 5. the mural says EL pastor instead of AL pastor. ugh! how embarrassing!!! can’t wait to get back to texas...or to NYC for that matter...seems like the only two legit spots to get some real tacos in this country....and maybe LA, although i haven’t visited there in years. BUT on a POSITIVE note...the cumbia music was great, the tamarind/chili salt on the paloma was tasty, and the Santa Bárbara steak taco was ok... i continued to eat it, slopping it up with my hands, even as ithe corn tortilla crumbled into little pieces.

An offshoot of Mamacita’s, Taco Temple retains the same focus on homemade Mexican eats. The offerings are a bit fancier than you might find at a typical taco joint but not to the point of pretentiousness (they also have breakfast tacos for those who are up early enough). While it occupies a smallish space, Taco Temple does offer a cool vibe, including a vintage Corona machine. My wife and I opted for a trio of tacos plus guac to go. Our order was ready on-time, and one look at the homemade blue corn tortillas made us anxious to dig in. The tacos were generally tasty and delivered distinct flavors: the loreto (tangerine-pasilla shrimp) was spicy and tangy while the Santa Barbara (ancho-brown sugar rubbed steak) was smoky and slightly sweet. The panela (panela cheese, poblano, black bean, pickled onion) included too much pickled onion and too little cheese, however. The chips, guac, and tomatillo salsa were solid complements to the meal. Taco Temple may or may not make you a convert, but it’s worth at least one pilgrimage.

I love their handmade corn tortillas- so yummy! I also appreciated reading about the closer relationship with the farmers where they get their heirloom cornmeal from 👩🏾‍🌾👨🏾‍🌾, and that all ingredients are fresh 🌮🥕🥒🥬🌶. For the most part this is a good gentrified taco shop (Asheville has quiet a few, but I would say this is the best). I’m happy local family owned business is not far from me, it’s a good choice for meals.

I can only give 4 stars because my order was wrong so I didn’t get to enjoy everything. I was super excited to drive down Charlotte street and see them then one day, but parking was always full so I never stopped (good sign! 😊). When they showed up this morning on the Takeout Central app, I was so happy 😃. The problem with my order is I don’t like crema (they have pistachio crema on the avocado taco) but my neighbor who was ordering with me does, so I asked for the crema on the side. They put it on the taco so I didn’t eat it. My neighbor swapped half of his avocado torta for my taco. The problem with that is I’m not a fan of tortas, particularly the quesillo cheese used for it. If it was chihuahua cheese it would have been mind blowing 😍. So the torta wasn’t that good to me. I did however love the panela taco, it was so good! I got a side of guacamole and chips and my neighbor got a side of the tomatillo sauce and chips. The sauce had a nice kick to it, and the avocado made it deliciously creamy and tasted very fresh. The guac was good after we added a bit of salt and squeezed a lime slice over it. The chips were ok, a bit tough but it wasn’t too bad. The horchatas were ok after we added some cinnamon. I was excited to eat some duros that came with the torta. Growing up in Chicago my mom would stop and get us some when we saw these on the Mexican carts in Lawndale and Little Village 🥰.

I also hope they add their breakfast tacos to the Takeout Central ordering menu. Even though you can get delivery in the morning, I didn’t see any breakfast tacos on the menu at 9:45am, only lunch tacos.

All in all this is a yummy spot and I look forward to getting Chris and breakfast tacos one day 🥚 🥑 😊. The churros also aren’t on the takeout central menu but they are on their...

I LOVE Taco Temple. They have the best tacos in Asheville, if not WNC. Their shrimp taco is amazing. It's packed full of shrimp and the sauce is delicious. Their avocado taco is a close, close second. I'm not vegan so I never thought to try it. Thank goodness one day I was determined to eat healthier and ordered one. Without that, I would have missed a wondrous delight, a healthy wondrous delight. I just had no idea avocado and sweet potato went so well together. And the salad! Y'all, that salad is beyond great. Get it with shrimp and you're going to have a hard time ever ordering anything else. They have 2 types of dressing that you put on it and it brings everything together. And I always have at least half to take home. It's that big. So why only 4 stars? Because I also love margaritas and the margarita I had at Taco Temple was less than decent. Maybe I'm spoiled, or maybe they were a little off that day, but whatever it is, I will never order another margarita there again. It was just not good. I love them too much to ever say it was nasty, but if I had gotten it anywhere else, it would have been nasty. So, if you want great food, they have great food. If you want a great margarita, bring it with you and have their great food. And of course they have other alcoholic drinks but I'm a tequila girl so I can't speak on anything else. PS I almost forgot the salsa. I get the avocado something salsa for my chips. It's the bomb. I could just go there and I haven't seen anything close to it...

Taco Temple is a delicious place to grab seriously awesome tacos, but you get what you pay for (a single taco can be $5). We parked in the nearby lot and ordered from the walk up window before eating outside. Here's what we tried:

The Santa Barbara (Ancho chile-brown sugar rubbed steak) was our favorite by far, with it's sweet sauce and perfectly cooked meat.

The Panela (griddled panela cheese, roasted poblano peppers, black beans & pickled onion) was runner-up. The cheese adds good, crumbly flavor, and they fit a lot into the tortilla (we got flour tortillas, I would recommend for this one as in my experience the corn tortillas are more likely to break). The most filling of the 3 tacos we tried.

The Loreto (baja inspired tangerine-pasilla chile shrimp) was our least favorite of the 3, but still better than most fast food tacos.

We sat outside on a very cold day as all the 10-ish tables inside were full. One small outdoor heater tried its best but didn't do much even for the table directly underneath it. Next time we'll wait for a table inside or get drive-thru / quick pickup.

It's the best taco place I've gone to so far in Asheville, and definitely worth going to at least once, but it's a quick eat that won't quite fill you up for the same price if you're used to fast food tacos or full service restaurants with bigger menus like Ay Caramba (a solid Mexican restaurant in southeast Asheville). You get what...
