One extra star because the chai latte and the mocha we ordered were delish. Such a low rating last time i went because of one of the counter people that took my order. About 4-5 weeks ago. He was RUDE. He was condescending. He said something and i didn't hear him, i asked him to say it again. He did, yelling at me instead if speaking. After that, he acted as though he didn't understand a word i said. Yet the woman standing next to him behind the counter heard me perfectly. What a nut case. Young guy, short, glasses, dark hair. I will attempt to go to this location again in the future but honestly if i see him in there i will leave immediately and drive or walk down the street. Pity, even though they are expensive the food and beverages are good. Plus I live across the street. I have been going elsewhere for...

City Bakery was a short walk from where we were staying, so it became our breakfast spot by default. Fortunately, it proved to be a good one. Bread may be their calling card, but they do have more substantial fare (biscuits, bagels, sandwiches, etc.) as well. We went with a pair of coffee drinks and a chocolate croissant as well as a loaf of Jewish rye to take home. Though they keep busy here, staff were pleasant and accommodating.

The coffee drinks were smooth, and when we eventually broke into the rye, it had a nice crust and made for an excellent sandwich bread. The croissant was thicker and less flaky than expected. It definitely wasn’t bad, but I’ve been spoiled by better options back home.

Whether you’re seeking bread, a breakfast bite, or caffeination to keep you going, City Bakery is a...

Big fan of this bakery! I googled "best bagels in Asheville" and found this bakery, and am so glad I decided to try them! Make sure to get the scallion egg and cheese biscuit--it is excellent! The biscuit is soft but holds together well for eating the yummy biscuit without it completely falling apart. The iced chai charger with oatmilk was so tasty, and they were even able to make it a bit less sweet for me, which I really appreciate. I also got a bear claw (with almond paste) and scone for the road--the white chocolate and craisin scone was my favorite of the two--and bagels and sourdough for later. The bagels were a bit fluffier than I prefer, but the sourdough was especially excellent, and they even sliced it for me. I will definitely be visiting this bakery again when...

I love this bakery and have been buying sourdough bread here for a couple months. I usually get the country sourdough loaf which is baked up as an artisan boule (and they’ll slice it if you request). They also sell sourdough as a traditional sandwich loaf. Loaves of sourdough cost about $6 with tax. The bread is delicious and it’s real sourdough made with only sourdough starter (no commercial yeast) and fermented over hours. They also have other types of artisan bread and pastries that are not sourdough. Get there early as they have been sold out by noon on the couple occasions I arrived later.
