Such an amazing store with an amazing mission! Swahili Coast is truly changing the lives of the artisans they partner with. It is fascinating to follow them on Instagram where you can see their trips to East Africa to work directly with the artisans. I went to high school/ college with the founders and they are incredible people with a passion for doing good in an equitable and sustainable way. The products are high quality and beautiful. Absolutely lovely little shop with beautiful items! My hubby and I have been coming to AVL since 2007 and it's like a second home to us. We were hesitant to return this Fall after the hurricane as we didn't want to add stress to the recovering infrastructure, but our local friends encouraged us to visit and support all of our favorite small businesses. So glad we did! Stopped here for the first time and got a beautiful bracelet. Also had a lovely conversation with the woman working. We love you, Asheville... all your beautiful businesses, artists, restaurants & beyond! Hope to visit this shop again...

This is my favorite fair trade store ever!! The founders are the absolute sweetest, most knowledgeable, compassionate, culturally-aware, respectful, and giving people I have ever met. They partner solely with worker-owned cooperatives which means that the artisans in East Africa own their work and their businesses! The products are so gorgeous and so carefully crafted that they last for ages with proper care.
