I was excited to try out this café today Thursday 6/7/2024 to do some remote working while traveling for the weekend. Looked like my kind of café. Before purchasing anything setting up my laptop, I asked the man behind the counter if it was dog friendly. I didn’t see any signs that indicated pets were not allowed. I have two adorable, super friendly and well behaved labradoodles. He was very friendly about it and gave an immediate yes. I shortly returned with my dogs.
Upon ordering a flat white with oat milk, the young lady with the edges of her hair dyed pink was very snooty and asked how I wanted it made. I asked her what that meant as there’s only one way to make a flat white. She went on with telling me there was multiple ways to make a flat white expecting me not to be able to tell her how to make a flat white. So I described exactly how to make a flat white with the number of ounces of espresso and a bit more than a dollop of foam. It felt quite condescending and I called her out on it.
I almost left but decided to stay as the other young gentleman who was the barista said he knew exactly what was needed. I tipped him directly as appreciated his interception.
I returned to the counter a bit later to order a chai latte. The young lady was much more professional in her response so I was pleased about that. I then ordered lunch and had another pleasant experience. The quality of the drinks and the food was fantastic. It was a really lovely space to sit with my dogs and work. Sometime around 1 PM, there was a shift change. Around 2 PM I ordered their delicious organic ice cream, and continued to work about another hour and a half.
Around that time someone came in with their dog, and one of my Labradoodles barked lightly two times. I indicated to her to be quiet and she listened. Shortly after that the young man working the shift with dreadlocks came over and told me I had to leave the café because of my dogs. I asked why. He said that dogs are not allowed in the café. I specifically explained to him that I had asked if they were allowed before I even entered with them in the morning. He told me the same thing again. I reminded him that there weren’t any signs posted anywhere either to indicate dogs weren’t allowed in the café, he just repeated that dogs weren’t allowed in the café with a blatantly unauthentic smile on his face. For the record, my dogs were on a leash fixed to the secured table leg, didn’t bother any customers unless a customer approached because they wanted to say hi to the dogs and pet them. They mostly played at my feet enjoying the cool polished cement floor.
I’m posting this because I think it’s important for the owner(s) to understand how their staff are treating customers. It’s important to be consistent and to not make customers feel like they are being picked on. What a shame! I was planning to work another day, spending just under $50 again and order again multiple times, but don’t feel good about returning now or recommending the place to anyone as a result of my experience with some...
Read moreI don't leave a review unless I've had some sort of experience that wasn't pleasant. I used to live in Ashland and went to mix all the time and was so stoked when they made their sister location remix. I moved out to Ashley in a couple years ago and today was a day I got to go into remix. When I went into the location there was two people in front of me and I patiently waited for my turn. The barista that was working the counter seemed so sweet and was so talkative and kind with them and I was stoked for the funky little shop. After the two patrons left in front of me it was my turn, I greeted her with a pleasant good morning and she just said what do you want in an extremely rude Manner. I told her the drink sounded delicious and she just said do I need room for cream and then walked away. I felt like I had instantly done something wrong and was not welcomed in the establishment, I could not figure out why the people in front of me were greeted so pleasantly and I was not. I ordered the thin mint cold brew that was listed for $5 and I was charged $7 do not understand but didn't complain. A gentleman finished making my drink and I asked him if I had purchased the small one. The menu behind on the wall had listed 5/7 so I was under the impression that there is two different sizes for two different prices and the barista had not said anything to me behind the counter except what do you want. He said there was only one size and I was like that's fine. The coffee itself was great, the food menu looked brilliant, the beer and wine selection was great. However it's been quite a while that I felt like I should have spent my money somewhere else. I was in restaurant management for years and hospitality for over 12 years now. Again it's not something that I typically would do to leave a review unless it really was unsettling. It's noted that I will be going somewhere else but for anybody going in there maybe get your items to go or just be prepared to not feel as welcomed, maybe it just depends on the clothing that...
Read moreHow often does someone order a coffee to go and want to just let it sit there for fun?? Never!!! This msg is for management only if they are interested in improving service. Just stopped by on my way to Portland from CA. Could have gone across the street but the Stumptown Coffee sticker on the window made us do a maneuver and even wait for parking to try your place. Order our 2 large lattes and 2 pastries “to go”. $23.60 plus 15% tip. Waited and waited for our coffee. My husband gave up and went back to tend to our dog. I waited a little more and went up to ask if my 2 lattes were ready. After clarifying what my order was I was told my lattes were next. Went back to my sit by the front window now for the last 15 min. Made eye contact with a barista a few times. Nothing. The place is loud. I kept my eye on the pick up but didn’t want to just stand there like a weirdo specially because there was a pastry that I could see had been sitting there for at least 10 min. Imagined I would get some kind of signal. Nothing. Finally walked there and reluctantly asked him very the open pastry sitting there for f my coffees were those sitting back behind the pastry if those semi warm coffees sitting open with no lids (to go order) were mine. They said yes and that they called 3 times (Maybe whispered 3 times). I am not that deaf. I just don’t get the lack of interest in making sure a customer gets their order in acceptable time and hot when they know the customer is sitting right there. I didn’t leave the place. I was sitting inside, interested with you and even went up to ask how much the ice creams were. Am I that unforgettable? I wish I could take my tip back. What did I tip for again?? Unfortunate begging of my day at such a beautiful and cozy coffee shop that could have been memorable...
