We drove over TWO HOURS to bring my son for a tour of Lambeau as a birthday gift and the meal at Kroll’s was to be a nice meal to conclude the trip. I should have known when we walked in that there would be problems once we saw dirty tables & counters everywhere as well as noticed an aroma of burnt plastic. However it was rather busy and this place was recommended to us by a Lambeau staff member so I just figured maybe they were swamped and thought I’d try to give it a chance.
We ordered some cheese curds & deep fried mushrooms as appetizers and then 3 sandwiches w/ fries. The curds and mushrooms were both out to us in less than 5 mins. Those weren’t anything to write home about. I KNOW I’ve had better cheese curds at Culver’s!! Then we sat there waiting over 45 minutes just to get the burgers served to us. Then, when they finally DID serve them, it seems like they had been sitting somewhere for like 20-30 minutes or something. For starters, my son and I both received our meals on plates but my boyfriend got served his "1/4 lb burger” (definitely not a 1/4) inside a greasy wrapper and no plate. The bread on my “prime rib” hoagie was ridiculously hard. There was a corner of cheese melted on top of the bun and it didn’t match the cheese the came with my sandwich. Oh and “prime rib” my a**. I’ve been served better roast beef at Arby’s than what was on my sandwich. My son's Buffalo chicken sandwich was chewy and gross. I rarely ever complain about my food and my son pretty much never complains but he was disgusted by his meal. About the only part of the entire meal that was edible were the fries, mushrooms, and barely the curds. I truthfully cannot recall a restaurant experience worse than this one. I’m pretty sure I’ve eaten better meals from Taco Bell than this place!!
As we were leaving, I needed to use the bathroom. I took one walk in the bathroom and decided to wait until I could stop somewhere else. The bathroom looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in a week. Pretty sure an 80’s gas station bathroom in the middle of nowhere was cleaner than this restaurant’s bathroom!!
I keep telling you all the horrible things but the staff were very apologetic and very friendly. However, it was obvious that they were all overworked and understaffed. This is the ONLY reason I gave more than one star.
I understand that a lot of places are hurting for employees but maybe this place should be shut down until they can get their act straight. Had Gordon Ramsey entered this business…. I don’t think there are enough curse words in the English language to express what he would want to say about the place. I’m confident that an 8-year-old could prepare a better meal than whatever moron was in the kitchen tonight!
Someone needs to call an inspector or something before this place kills someone with food poisoning. It was so bad that I wouldn’t feed any of it to my dogs!! This is by far the worst review I have ever given. I should have just left without paying but I didn’t feel like dealing with cops. Just save yourself the hassle and stay away from this...
Read moreMy wife and I went to Kroll's after being told "you HAVE to try Kroll's!" It's like walking back to 1962 and they have great food - burgers, sandwiches, etc.
Well, I beg to differ: After travelling, my wife was in the mood for "real food," so instead of ordering a burger or sandwich, she got shrimp with mashed potatoes and a salad. I ordered an increadble sounding "baked tenderloin steak" with mashed potatoes and a salad as well. We also ordered the deep-fried cheese curds as an appetizer. First, the service was horrible. The waiter looked confused when we asked opinions on ANY of the menu items, so we just went with our guts and ordered the food mentioned above and a couple of cocktails (the only good thing that night). The food all came out at once - obviously they don't know what an appetizer is. The curds were ok, but not crispy and a bit cold. My wife's shrimp tasted fine, but both our mashed potatoes were ICE cold. Couldn't even begin to melt the butter that was placed in the center - also, they were not home-made. That's fine, lots of places use Trio mashed potatoes, but serve them HOT please! So after hitting our little "service" button a couple times, our very confused waiter took our plates to have them warmed. I will give the nice waitress who assisted him an A for effort - she got new potatoes on behalf of her slower work-mate and made sure they were very hot and melty. Now for the really bad part: My baked tenderloin steak. $16.00 would have been a great value for 2 nice 5 oz cuts that they brought me, BUT they had a strange flavor. You know when your oven catches on fire (oil spilling, etc), or a frying pan catches on fire? There is a putrid smoke that forms and blackens everything in the area. Well, that's what my steaks tasted like. The first one went down ok - dipped in in the au jus, and just had a slight "strange" flavor. Even let my wife have a taste. Very tender, cooked almost right - but then I got to the 2nd steak and that smoke flavor was all I could taste. It wasn't the "good" smoke flavor, but the one described above. Plus, the second cut was almost raw...which I could get around if it didn't taste so horrible. My wife and I were both nauseated and burping up this horrible flavor for at least 12 hours - into the next morning. I'm NOT claiming food poisoning or anything here - it was that smoke.
Perhaps I should have taken the advice of the people that recommended this place and ordered a burger - but we spent more than $50.00 for dinner and a drink here - the food should at least be palatable! Unfortunately, I will never know what their other menu items taste like, because I will never set foot in there again. Horrible service, and as far as I can tell, HORRIBLE food.
Thanks for the reply, Kroll's - 11 years later! LOL! I would think that the cooks and servers from our night aren't even there anymore. But I...
Read moreWe came to Kroll’s for cheese curds and a burger, as one does. Once we sat ourselves at the food counter we got served quick enough. But then it got weird.
The food was fine, what you would expect, yadda yadda. We shared a burger that didn’t come with a plate or any way to like actually share the burger. I had to lay napkins out in front of us like a picnic and it was awkward. The burger was just wrapped in paper. The curds came in a glass dish (no sauce) and the juxtaposition of food receptacles was odd.
The service was super wonky. Even though we sat ourselves directly in front of the service station we found ourselves having to flag people down (wanted sauce). We were never offered a refill on our empty drinks though we were a feathers throw from the drink station. I overheard a woman being really condescending to a younger, newer, staff member for putting ice cream in a float before the soda. I mean she tore into her for no reason I almost said something to make the girl feel better. Moments later, an angry woman came up to the bar and said they had been waiting for their food for “a really long time”. The kitchen never got/lost the ticket. I then overheard that the ticket had been on the board for an hour and thirty minutes. How in the world can you let a table sit waiting for their food for 1:30 like how did no one notice this? Lolllllllll.
Then we’re done eating. I clear my napkin picnic. And we sit the card for payment in a very clear spot, as shown in my photo. Again, we’re sitting directly in front of the server station, every one of them walking past of us constantly. Literally looking at our card and eyes darting away quickly. Finally flagged someone down idk? 20 minutes later? And she was like “oh, you pay up front.” Hahahaha - thanks.
Anyway the elder servers being so rude and condescending to other staff members was such a put off to me - like all of these signs plastered about for staff members to remember how lowly they are working here. I don’t like...
