Five stars. I must say, though, The bartender was rather aloof. Although he did bring menus immediately, & asked me how many in my party, after I informed him that a friend was on his way, he didn't offer me an appetizer or even a drink. I suppose he figured I'd just wait for my friend to join me. It was rather difficult to get his attention as well. Many people would have simply left. I had time on my hands, and don't fancy myself the center of the universe, so it didn't bother me much. The five stars are for cleanliness, politeness, pleasant atmosphere, fast service (the meal took about 4 minutes to arrive after I ordered it. And though the bartender failed to offer me a drink upon my entering the bar, as is the custom in these here parts, he did actually appear and provide menus immediately. Thus, I believe he simply doesn't understand that like virtually everyone in Astoria, I'm used to having a drink offered to me as soon as I walk in.) and decent prices. $10.50 or so for my meal. The food was VERY good. Edible food is not hard to find in Astoria, but excellent food is rather scarce. Golden Luck's vegetable pan-fried noodles featured very flavorful noodles, and absolutely fresh vegetables, tastefully chopped, & just the right portion on a plate. Delicious! Glad to know that there's a place in town where a person can get a delicious, efficient lunch! And I will avail myself...
Read morePleasantly surprised! The place we wanted to eat closed right before we got there so we hurried over to Golden Luck as a last resort, not expecting much besides typical greasy Chinese food. Even though it was right before closing for them as well, staff hurried up to take our to-go order with a smile, then turned the “open” light off, so we knew we were way past cutting it close. But they happily took our order anyway. The food came out SO quick that we joked on the way back to hotel that they had just thrown together other people’s leftovers. But we were blown away by what was actually in the box. The food was perfectly hot and everything was delicious! The beef was tender and the sauce had perfect balance of salt and sweet without being too heavy. Chicken was fried perfectly - light and crispy outside, juicy and tender inside. This place was definitely a hidden gem … we would never have gone there had the other restaurant been open, but I’m so glad we ended up...
Read moreBest Chinese food in all the north coast...if you are Chinese then its just really good food...bartenders are very cute and sweet-even if they're in a bitchy mood, and restaurant staff are very polite, one or two will even converse with you from time to time...the only drawback is the toilet paper is little more than extremely thin, fine grit sandpaper-I used their toilet once and pulled own and tore off a few sheets but ended up with such a small wad of t.p. i had to repeat this 19 times to get an adequate amount for the initial wipe...right away i knew it was a mistake ignoring my instinct to just go home to sit...this was made evident because the t.p. was so abrasive and fibrous itlacerated my anus in two places and resulted in the bathroom looking like the scene from a bloody homicide...but don't let that play a role in your decision to eat there-seriously best Chinese food in...
