After witnessing my brother's ashes spread at a certain lighthouse out of Illwaco, Washington, we stopped here at this very unique tavern, the place is very nice and well kept up, inside the place it's a very warm setting with one way walking up to order your food and another to exit the tavern. Our waitress, bartender, and i believe maybe our cook as well, was very nice and very friendly. She took our order and gave us our coffee, in which, i normally have to add sugar and creamer at almost all restaurants, because the coffee is nasty, not here, that had to of been the best tasting coffee to date at a restaurant, i drank it the way i drink mine at home, just plain black coffee. Anyways when the food was done her and my bf brought it to the table, the food was awesome and cheap, my breakfast was 6 or 7 strips of bacon, hashbrowns, two eggs over medium, and wheat toast for $5 I dare you to go to freddy's and try buying all that for $5 and as good as it looked, it even tasted as good, my bf went to the restroom and he said they have outdoor dining behind the place, so if youre in astoria and want an excellent home style breakfast at a reasonable price, stop in at the Workers Tavern almost directly under the Megler Bridge. I want to thank our waitress/bartender/chef you made my day brighter and less gloomy, because I was able to be with my family finally after loosing my brother who was an officer in Arizona, he was killed in the line of duty on August...
Read moreWe've lived in Astoria for a few years now but hadn't been into this place yet, so we walked on a whim because they have "breakfast served all day!" verbiage outside, and that's what we felt like having. Bad decision. We walked in, and there was no sign of anyone working or what we should do - seat ourselves, go up to the bar and wait, etc.? We didn't see any menus or anything, either, so we just meandered around a bit to see what the situation was, and then a guy walked in. He greeted us rather irritatedly, then went to wash his hands, then came back. I said that we were there for breakfast but weren't sure how to order or where to sit, because it looked like there might be seating upstairs, too? He goes, all annoyedly, "WHAT DO YOU MEAN? YOU CAN SIT WHEREVER YOU WANT," like we were complete idiots. I was already done with the experience at that point, because really, dude? That's how you act toward people who are coming in to give you business/money, and who are acting perfectly nice toward you? We hadnt given him attitude of any kind. He then gave us menus like he hadn't just been extremely rude for no reason, but we just walked out. We definitely won't be going in there again, and will continue patronizing the friendly establishments that serve breakfast around town instead. Wish we would have read the reviews about this place before bothering with going in - there are plenty that warn against it due to...
Read moreWhen you walk in it appears like just another dive bar with a Ranier Christmas Tree on the ceiling and a cool solstice door that lights up with colors in the middle, but when you invest in some time here you’ll find a solid place to stay, a great place to eat for a good price, quality drinks, and a staff that are both providing high customer service with realness of sass. I couldn’t say enough nice things about the staff and having spent a few nights here we chatted with at least four of them and they were all good people.
The back patio is also a surprising oasis under the bridge - lots of custom made wood furniture with lots of space and a dartboard out back!
If you do stay the night in one of their rooms, wear the earplugs. You never know when a woo girl starts to get loud out back with their friends and the rooms share the really amazing patio space with the bar/restaurant.
I recommend a Jungle Slammer (the two booze slushies mixed in a pretty pattern) and the chicken fried steak. Huge breakfast portions, so watch out if you just need a snack!
We will be back and Workers is now a necessary stop on the...
