Here is my review of a local family-owned Nicaraguan restaurant:
5/5 stars ⭐️
I'm so glad that Tres Bro's finally has a brick-and-mortar location! Since their food truck days, I have been following Yadira Lopez and her family’s journey. I have to say I am super-impressed that the quality and flavor of their dishes have only gotten better.
The shrimp tacos are still my favorite, packed with well-seasoned grilled shrimp and served with a side of spicy picada and beans. If you’re vegetarian, she has “Maduro Frito” (fried plantains) and the delicious Nicaraguan staple “Queso frito” (grill-fried cheese).
The love and care that is put into every dish can be seen and tasted throughout every single menu item. Two new dishes I have come to love are the “Chancho Frito plate” and the “Fritanga”. The first one is filled with morsels of fried pork, rice, queso Frito, picada (Nicaraguan-style pico de gallo) and Nicaraguan slaw. GF ($15). The second one is a variety platter that consists of your choice of protein (steak, chicken, shrimp, daily catch or veggie), beans w/rice, maduro frito, queso frito, picada, cream and queso cotija (a drier crumbled white cheese). I opted for the bonus option which had both seared steak bites and shrimp. It is called the “Uncle Tut (surf & turf) Fritanga”. ($20)
The service is always warm and I am always welcomed with big smiles. I love how the family members themselves often stop by to chat and ensure everything is to your liking. The new location is cozy and colorful, right at the edge of downtown Astoria, with vibrant decorations that add to the lively atmosphere.
Don't miss out on this local treasure! Whether you're a longtime fan like me or just discovering the joys of Nicaraguan cuisine, this restaurant is a must-visit. ¡Buen provecho!"

Read moreOh. My. Word. My husband and I just tried Tres Bro’s Nicaraguan Grill last night and were so pleased we did. We knew they had a successful food truck, but I am so happy they are now in a solid brick and mortar location. The restaurant is cozy and comfortable. You are greeted by an open kitchen, and it’s the divine smells rising from that kitchen that makes you realize “this is going to be good”! Our server was a young man who has restored my faith for the younger generation. You can tell this family owned establishment is raising their boys well. He was friendly, informative, attentive, responsible and self-assured. Just an absolute delight. His brothers were equally kind and I enjoyed watching them assemble their Christmas tree. The chef and her husband both stopped by our table, as well, and that was also a nice touch. They should be proud of their boys and their product. The food? What can I say. Absolutely sublime. The Smoked Salmon Chowder is a show stopper. Don’t miss out on a cup, or better yet, a bowl. The smoky creaminess was a welcomed warming appetizer for our main course. My husband got the Grilled Ling Cod, while I decided on the Chicken Fritanga. Suffice it to say, there was very little talking and more stuffing of faces at our table. They also use locally sourced products, which I love. You know you’re getting the freshest and best. Well done! I believe we may have found our new favorite restaurant in Astoria. Wishing them immense success! We...
Read moreThe fritanga is the classic Nicaraguan plate, el Plato típico. I highly recommend it getting started. Tres Bros started out as a food truck in Astoria and has finally gotten its own restaurant. It has been opened for a year now. This is probably the only place you can get plantains on the coast and I know the only Nicaraguan grill in Oregon.
We got our food quickly, we were served promptly, and the owner told us about her story getting the place started. It is amazing to see how much her business has grown, and I am proud to leave a review for her restaurant. She explained the portion sizing, the price of getting her ingredients to the coast, and for what it’s worth it is a great price for the food and shipment costs.
The owner herself served our food. She explained how they hoped to upsize the kitchen. We ate there on a Saturday for lunch, where there were two other tables seated. When we left, the entire place was filled for dinner.
The fried cheese is delicious, the steak was a bit over cooked. Our waters were running low so there needs to be more attention in that aspect. I highly recommend the Nicaraguan IPA for anyone who likes beers. A good one to try! And they serve...
