Clarke's Standard — Restaurant in Athens-Clarke County Unified Government

Terrible. 8 of us came in at dinner time on a Wednesday night; there were, at max, 10 other customers in the restaurant. We were sat and set up with water along with other drinks. It took 10 minutes to get those drinks from the bar to us. We ordered and everything seemed to be fine until the waitress did not come back to refill waters or ask if we wanted any other drinks. About 45 minutes go by before she comes back to apologize for the food taking so long. We have to make sure she doesn't run away in order to get water refilled and another round of drinks. 15 minutes later, we get those drinks and finally our food. I ordered cheese on my veggie burger, but there was no cheese. Fries were luke-warm at best. One person at our table got their food 10 minutes after everyone else due to a mess up. Waitress never asked if everything was okay at any point during the night. She then added a 20% gratuity to all of our checks and was very annoyed that we all wanted to pay separately. I also found that she had charged me for the cheese that was not on my burger. Do NOT go here unless you enjoy terrible service, long waits for food & drinks and sub-par food that is way overpriced. I've been here 2 times since my first review (4 stars) and both times the service has been so slow we nearly walked out.

This last time it took 45 min (I timed it) to get a waffle. A WAFFLE. Waffles take 4 min to cook. It's not like we went at prime time, either. It was 2:30 pm on a Friday and half the tables were empty.

Worse, the waffles (which I loved the first time I ate here) have gone seriously downhill qualitywise. The waffle itself was still good, but the toppings were just piled on and did not match the menu description. Everything was sloppy and my bananas were burned rather than caramelized.

I forgive any restaurant a bad meal once. Everyone has bad days. But this combo of excruciatingly slow service and sloppy, subpar cooking has happened 2x in a row now, so I'm done. Will not be back again and will no longer recommend.

Original review, 4 stars: Clean, modern space, though a little loud. Spinach dip was a bit lazy, but the coffee cream waffle was absolutely incredible, especially for $6. Really lovely mocha flavor and a nice bready waffle. Burgers looked lovely going by, will definitely be back to...

I had a Google recommendation pop up for this place, so my wife and I decided to meet for a quick midweek dinner without the kids. Perfect for a change of pace for us.

Very cool place and excellent location for pre/post concert food or drinks.

She ordered the pimento cheese appetizer which was outstanding. For our entrees, she had the grilled chicken sandwich and fries and I had the black bean burger and ceasar salad. She said her sandwich was very good, and the fries were too. Mine was very good as well.

The service was a little unique. The waiter asked and took away our appetizer while there was still a small portion of it left. My wife and I were so surprised, neither of us could protest before he was gone and we each realized that the other wasn't done with it. He was midly attentive as a waiter should be, but his tableside manner, we did not see.

The kitchen was unexplainably slow as we were only 1 of 2 tables that even had people seated and the bar was nearly empty.

All in all it wasn't a bad experience, but not one I would say "Let's...
