I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. They used to have the best fish and chips. They served two large chunks of fish which were like no others in Athens, with steak fries. Now they serve fish that, dare I say it, is worse than Captain D's (not knocking CD's, just saying fast food is better in my opinion than The Globe food. The fish was simple and flat, much like what your mom cooks in the microwave/oven, and were not cooked well enough which made the inner crust doughy. We also ordered another dish, perhaps chili cheese chips. Again, they lacked flavor. Absolutely nothing special about the food. Very sub par for what I'd consider restaurant food. Definitely will not be going again. There are way too many restaurants that have good food in Athens to waste any time going to The Globe. Also, I have never figured it out, but their service is the worst in Athens. The waiter stopped by twice and I went to the bar to ask for our check since he was MIA for so long (doing various things behind the bar; including chatting). I asked for the check twice, which after 7 minutes I remained standing there for another 12 minutes until he apologetically set it on the bar. Again, I will not be going here again. I relatively expected this, but was willing go ignore the bad service for the fish and chips they USED TO SERVE. I've never given a negative review, but The Globe was so disappointing that I felt the need to review it. Again, I would not recommend this...
Read moreMy husband and I had the Fish & Chips, first time here. It was Fantastic!!! fresh Cod loin juicy and the batter was light, not greasy & cooked to perfection! Potatoes where hand cut like advertised and brined to release the starch a very important step if you know how to cook. This was authentic food, My regards to the Chef! Service was excellent also! Good service + good dinning experience = Good management/ownership. Got that equation correct also. Being a professionally trained Chef myself & born peasant chef catering private parties of all ethnicities in Boca Raton, FL for 16 years I give pretty harsh reviews to the restaurants. Now living here I have to make everything at home including Asian, Italian, South American, Eastern European , Middle Eastern, (British - Scott/Irish) & Southern cuisine. (I'm from N.J.?) Why can't these COOKS learn how to make the food from their own restaurant's ethnicity. (WIll HIGHLY RECOMMEND "THE GLOBE TAVERN " AND WILL BE BACK VERY SOON.) Bring out the Haggis & Black Pudding! definition of CHEF, noun /SHEF/ Someone who cooks like you...
