I have NEVER had such HORRIBLE service in my life! Arrived to this restaurant for Sunday Brunch, (Apparently this is their 2nd week doing brunch according to the server) we ordered within 5 minutes of being there at 1:27 pm. I know this because I responded to a happy birthday text from my sister. Oh yeah this all happened ON MY BIRTHDAY! We noticed a graduation party upstairs and thought nothing of it seeing as though we were the only other two patrons in the restaurant besides the party upstairs. 30 minutes goes by and we decide to order a drink, I choose orange juice my fiancé he had a sprite. As we waited we sat through the “DJ” testing the microphone and shuffling through different songs, none of which were appropriate for Sunday brunch. I do Sunday brunch often so I’m expecting light R&B maybe jazz or instrumentals but no not at Cafe Circa. Hardcore rap is what we got! Loud at that, we could barely have a decent conversation with one another and we sat very close in proximity to one another. 45 minutes in our server came over to the table to let us know the party upstairs was running behind and that our food was being prepared. Annoyed and frustrated we decided we waited this long the food had to be on the way, so we were prepared to wait just a while longer. My fiancé tried so hard to make sure my birthday brunch was special and tried to reassure me that the wait was definitely due to the party upstairs. I understood that, but as I looked around we were still the only two waiting for a very simple brunch that we ordered. As the doors to the kitchen opened and I saw the tray of food heading out I did what any other person would do, I prepared the table for the plates. Excited and beyond ready to eat I watched as the server walked past our table and head upstairs to the graduation party that was running behind. Needless to say disappointment consumed me and my growling abdomen. I watched that scene about 5 or 6 more times. Tray after tray server after server up and down the stairs and all the while the other servers stopped to have a cocktail or a hit of the hookah and they had customers that weren’t satisfied sitting waiting and waiting and waiting for Sunday brunch that seemed to be lost in space. Finally after giving this restaurant the benefit of the doubt we decided that we could no longer stay. We agreed to pay for the sprite and OJ we just wanted to go somewhere to get a meal. And let’s not forget TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY! I don’t want to spend the whole morning/afternoon in this restaurant and hungry! As we walk to pay for our drinks our server came out with the food after an hours wait and no real substance to the long wait time we agree to just eat and go about our day. As I walked to the table and prepare to eat my food I noticed the poached eggs that I asked to be over medium is under cooked even for poached egg status. And the size of crab cake doesn’t even cover the muffin it’s on. I was also expecting a side of grits and fruit, the server goes to get the fruit and the container the fruit came in is one size up from a thimble. We decided to pay for our drinks and leave, I for one thought we shouldn’t have paid for the drinks due to our long wait time and the fact that we barely took sips out the cups also. All of our glasses were full of drink still. My fiancé gave his card to the server and he reviewed the bill. For 2 drinks we were charged $26.16 including $9.00 for gratuity. 9 DOLLARS FOR GRATUITY PEOPLE!!! 9 DOLLARS TO WAIT AND WATCH! I saw other people’s food go by, I waited for my food for over an hour and I left your restaurant HUNGRY! How is that conducive for GRATUITY! Our total was $26.16 for beverages! On top of that they swiped his card several times and charged him 3 times the same amount and stated the other transactions will be put back into his account in about 3 days. I have never I repeat never had such a terrible experience at a restaurant in all my 32 years of living! Our server was pretty nice she continued to apologize for what happened and I don’t blame her but this...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I went to this place on 5/30/2015. When we walked in we went straight to the bar to order food and drinks. There were 3 to 4 bartenders but only one was "really working". We stood there waiting for someone to take our order but no one came to us. Then two girls came to the bar and stood next to us and the same bartender who was the only one "working" went to those two girls and took their orders and still never looked at us. So finally I said excuse me to another bartender who kept walking back and forth playing with money pinned to her because it was her birthday but I guess she felt she didn’t have to work. When she turned around I told her we had been waiting for a while now and no one has taken our order. This chick had the nerve to say "Well I didn’t see you and I been working." I wanted to slap this chick because prior to me saying excuse me she looked dead at me and turned around as if she had no one to serve. After she said what she said to me she told someone else to wait on us. So another bartender came over, not even the one that was right in front of us who I said was working the most; more than the others but someone else from the other end of the bar came to wait on us. So we placed an order for food and drinks and every time we would order food the bartender would ask for money. We started out with wings and shrimp tacos. The bartender asked for the money. Then we asked for another order of wings. The bartender asked for the money again. We then ordered sweet potato fries and once again the bartender asked for the money. Now I don’t know about you but I have never been to a bar/lounge or restaurant that asks for money if you continue to add food or drinks, especially if you are sitting at the bar. We were not standing or coming back and forth to the bar, we were seated. We continued to eat and tried to enjoy ourselves and then I realized I never got my sweet potato fries. I asked one of the bartenders how long it would be before we get them and she said "I wasn’t the one who took your order." How rude, I thought. The other bartender who took the order comes over and she says "Oh we are out of sweet potato fries." Now, when was anyone going to tell us that and on top of that you took our money as soon as we ordered them. Then a guy stood next to us to order a drink and he became upset because just like us, he too never was waited on. He kept trying to get someone’s attention but these little girls kept passing by as if they were not at work. Writing this review is making me mad all over again because we are spending our money in your establishment and we should receive quality service. This place is a joke and the staff is so unprofessional. I don’t think this place cares about their establishment and seem to hire bartenders with the nastiest attitudes. Please trained your employees and please work on treating your customers with more respect because again if it wasn’t for people spending their money in your restaurant/lounge, your business...
Read moreHey y'all! So my girlfriend suggested Café Circa on Edgewood Avenue. Seven girlfriends and I met up on a Friday night. They have hookah, food, and a bar. The music is awesome, great mix DJ! It is a little on the loud side which is cool if you're with friends and not on a first date lol. It is an upstairs and downstairs venue which is nice. I love the fact they have restrooms upstairs. They have hookah girls that come to you immediately after you sit down, which was great! We sat under the cabana, (did I spell that right lol?) which had plush colorful seating. They have bottle service which is a pretty decent price, but we wish we would've known before being seated. I say that because we were informed that to sit in the cabana there was a $20, 2 drink minimum for each person. Come to find out a bottle/bottle service was $50. (Did I mention it was 8 women including myself?) They have about 7 flavors of hookah which you can mix with no extra charge. The pull is decent. Great thing here is they don't charge you for extra people to smoke! Also they have I think 3 sizes of hookah things you can choose from ranging from $30-60, not bad at all! The service here is fantastic and the girls are super nice and not snobbish at all. We actually met either a manager or the owner couldn't possibly remember, but it was someone important and someone that took the time to speak to us! On this specific night it was a RnB Dinner party (which Snapchat had a filter for!). We did receive a free shot of Hennessy from the Hennessy girls and a picture (actually anyone from Café Circa that might read this where can we find that picture?) The reason I gave this place 4 stars and not 5 are the following reasons: Their bar does not, I repeat does not have Southern Comfort, like we're in the South lol They only have one TV upstairs It did get a little hot under the cabana, so a fan or two could have been turned on or located in the cabana A girlfriend ordered the red beans & rice and cabbage and thought they were both on the salty side After relaxing for about an hour or two our waitress tells us we might have to get up if we don't order bottle service, because someone is willing to do so... (refer back to my statement above where we should have been informed of this when we first were seated) so once she told us that we just got our checks and bar hopped down Edgewood Avenue.
Circa Café had a nice grown crowd of people. The weather on a perfect day is a great time to enjoy and catch up with friends. Nice hookah and the drinks that we did receive were strong, which is a great thing to start your night. My several girlfriends and I...
