We went to Joystick Gamebar for a friend's birthday, and the concept is great. This downtown Atlanta bar have classic arcade games, tabletop gaming, and a "full" bar. I loved the vintage/rustic decor.
We came here on a Saturday night at it was BUSY! We even had to wait in line for about 20 min before we were able to come in, and once in it was too crowded to even walk around.
The games go from 25¢ to 75¢, and here's some of the ones they have: Tekken Tag, Invasion II, Popeye, Centipede, Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat, Mrs. Pacman, TMNT - Turtles In Time, Out Run, Space Invaders, Twin Cobra, X-Men, Foosball, and more.
Even though they have a large selection of alcohol, they didn't have a lot of what we asked for. They didn't have Hennessy, Jack Daniels, 1800 tequila, or Blue Curaçao for Blue Hawaiians. Really? for a downtown atlanta bar they should extend their selection.
We didn't come here to eat, but they do have a small menu and they offer a lots of appetizers, and Asian dishes such as Potstickers, Crab Rangoons, Pork Belly Bowl, and Bulgogi Bowl. They also have a small selection of tacos.
Monday - Saturday they stay open until 2:30 am, and Sunday until midnight. There's no parking at all. Either try to find street parking on the streets behind (Chamberlain and Fitzgerald), or any parking garages around it.

Read moreI was treated like a criminal here. If you believe in the second amendment and an Americans right to carry a firearm then don't give this place your money. I am a licensed conceal carry permit holder. I was not patted down on entry, no one is. After having a beer while waiting for 8 of my friends to join me an employee notified me they had a no weapons policy, which is their right legally and no big deal. I told him I was licensed and asked to speak with a manager. I talked with Tyler and showed him my license and asked if it was ok if I simply tucked it away. He said he guessed so and I tucked in my shirt over the grip of my handgun and trusted that that was that and that I could now enjoy my evening in peace. This was a rare occasion where I didnt already have it tucked as my shirt was a little short and tight and therefore difficult to tuck and I figured I'd do it after I got out of my car but forgot. What happened next is what really ticked me off. None of my friends know I carry. It is my prerogative to do so without anyone knowing. In the middle of hanging out with my friends and playing a card game. An employee, I think the thin tall bouncer came and ANNOUNCED that he "didn't want to start any trouble but that I had to get rid of my firearm." thoroughly pissed that he just informed all of my friends that I carry and phrasing it like I'm a thug about to draw down for no reason I left and put my gun in my car. When I returned I was then told I needed to be patted down and the bouncer thoroughly patted me down from head to toe. I have never been treated this way in my life. Typically if somewhere doesn't allow weapons they have a safe they store your stuff in and since I'm licensed they apologize for the inconvenience. Not here, I got my bill and had to leave my friends birthday party. Everyone joined me elsewhere after they finished those drinks but now I'm on the defensive with all of them having to justify and explain why I carry to all of them when I didn't even want them to . Long story short, if you are an illegal unlicensed gun carrier come on in! They won't pat you down or anything just carry it concealed and rest assured that all the good guys have been kicked out of this bar. However if you are a law abiding citizen prepare to be treated like garbage. Refer to Safe Carry Act of 2014 to know your rights to...
Read moreI have no complaints with Joystick! Every interaction I've had with them has been professional and friendly, it's a classy venue that's relaxed and fun, the drinks are great, and they open up their kitchen to cooks looking to try out their food, which I think is an awesome idea.
My first time at Joystick, I asked for a kahlua and cream, but they didn't have kahlua. Instead, they worked with what they did have (including a South African liquor I hadn't known of) to give me something just as delicious. (Maybe it's silly, but I felt so special to have gotten a custom drink!) The bartenders were all very friendly and handled our large party with grace and smiles.
Right now, Joystick is hosting Junk Food in its kitchen. Junk Food's grilled cheese and tomato soup dish is an innovative spin on an old classic: pullman & sharp cheddar terrine and tomato soup aspic with black basil. The aspic was creamy and savory, and the terrine was crispy and buttery. The presentation looked gourmet, and the food tasted gourmet! Not bad for $8! I wish I could have tried all the rest that Junk Food was serving that night, but I guess that just means I'll have to go back soon!
I talked with Brandon, one of the guys on management, about reserving Joystick for an event. I wasn't able to make our event happen, but throughout all of our communication, Brandon answered all of my questions, gave me options, and gave me confidence that he and his team would be able to execute my plan.
The main bar room has fun retro arcade games, then the back room has board games and couches. My large group loves going there for our happy hour. You can be loud and have fun if you want, or you can relax and have conversations if you want. Joystick...
