The King Center has become a Den of thieves! Morehouse College, Atlanta Tech, and Just as well as the majority of HBCU’S. We have fallen victim to the power of a dollar. Atlanta Public Schools, Clayton, Henry, and many more are FAILING children before they have a CHANCE TO SUCCEED. Our dream has turned into a nasty nightmare, and our reality, a decrepit existence . Benjamin Elijah “Money” Mays was known to walk the halls for his tuition money, but he walked the halls with LOVE. There is NO WAY a year of schooling should cost you more than a new Cadillac. Yet at Morehouse this is the sad reality. We have gone from a “Beloved community” to a BeLOATHED community! From Brotherhood to HATEOCRACY and HYPOCRISY. WE DONT KNOW HOW TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER! All over Atlanta, Chicago, NY, and Los Angeles our boys ARE KILLING ONE ANOTHER! A black man is 3x more likely to be robbed at gunpoint because 9x/10x it’s another black man on the other end of the barrel robbing him WE NEED TO WAKE UP. In 1960, you could get a NICE apartment in Atlanta for $65.00/ month. Which is is about $700 in today’s money. $700 is all you we should be paying for an “starter” Apartment considering the fact that $700 is the most that a $15.00/ hr (entry level job) could afford. If the low class man doesn’t have a place to start ,HE WON’T HAVE PLACE TO FINISH. If you had a Time Machine (Muni Long) , you would be able to go the year 1855, and see that there were almost NO HOMELESS PEOPLE. Muni if you could go and see how there were no HOUSING PROJECTS in 1855. Homeless didn’t become a thing in America until 1865, when a bunch of people got laid off their jobs and evicted from their homes with no severance pay. Many people walked off those fields SEVERED FROM DIGNITY. The dignity of having A HOME, the dignity of having a CARRIAGE , the dignity of having a DREAM! And what if I told you that the severance in many places is STILL OCCURRING 160 years later. What if I told you that high rent , high car insurance (based on zip code), high food prices (for scraps) and low job security , low access to healthcare and education, were all weapons of racial warfare. I have attached pictures of a $2,000 per month rental located in Laredo Texas. This place has the least Negros in America and just so happenes to have the lowest rent prices. A $2,000 rental in Laredo is outfitted as shown with Luxury Hardwood Floors, 10’ foot ceiling, granite countertops, and a host of upper echelons. Yet if your looking for a place in Atlanta, D.C, Los Angeles, Boston, NY, etc. you’d get not much if anything. For 2k in those cities you will most likely end up living on M.L.K somewhere (lol). We now know that we must wake up if we don’t want to go extinct. We need to wake up, but we can still DREAM. I HAVE A DREAM TODAY , I’LL HAVE A DREAM TOMORROW, AND IMMA HAVE DREAM FOREVA!!!! MINE EYES !!! HAVE SEEN THE GLORY OF THE COMING OF THE...

Read moreThe King Center is a world-class venue in Atlanta designed to provide visitors with experiences that embody the life work and beliefs of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I have benefited from and been enormously enriched by my experiences and associations with the King Center and the adjacent historic area. I teach creative writing classes for senior citizens regularly at two Fulton County senior centers located just blocks from the Center. From time to time I stop at the original Ebenezer Baptist Church to meditate and hear Dr. King's words in his own voice. A number of the participants at the Mills Senior Facility knew Dr. King and his family personally. Their memories and stories are deeply moving. Recently, I performed for the King Center's Beloved Community International Expo, which brought together representatives from consulates and embassies from 25 + countries and 5 continents. This free to the public outdoor event was remarkable in the accessibility to culture, arts, food and information freely given from each of these countries. Event passports were distributed. Passport holders were able to get their passports stamped as they traveled the grounds of the King Center and spoke with representatives from the countries they selected to visit. I was honored to represent the country of Ireland as a spoken word performer, flautist, choreographer and director from Gateway Performance Productions. The events I have attended and participated in as an artist at the King Center over the years have always been outstanding. One of the highlights of my career was when I received a request from the King Center to represent them at the Chinese Cultural Center by performing a poem written by one of the students during the time of protest in China in Tiananmen Square. The poem begins with these words, " Mother. Mother, I am dying..." and so I supposed the young student was dead. Imagine my surprise when after I completed the performance the author of this poem rushed to the stage to embrace and thank me. The student was very much alive - brought to safety in the United...
