Long time eater. First time poster.

Chico&Chang…let’s talk.

sigh I’ve seen the fancy new renovations, I’ve peeped at the omisión of the Chico menu, and i get that you’re trying to reinvent yourself.

I get it. You’ve been going out more and wearing less. We’re all suppose to evolve and become better.

But listen here, C&C, when you start changing recipes and cheating on the quality of your food is when I have a problem.

Since I’ve moved to the east side in ‘17 - your food has been my comfort go to. Through the heartaches and celebrations, your food is what was consistent. Felt like home and familiar. For almost a decade, I’ve throughly enjoyed the salt and pepper calamari.

Sorry everyone - this post is about the salt and pepper calamari

See, Chico&Chang - your calamari used to flavorful, lightly breaded with a good balance of salt and pepper. The calamari were smaller, plentiful and worth the indulgence. I’ve been going around the nation, comparing calamaris and nothing used to beat what you used to have. Dare I even say, worldwide but who am I - it’s very douchy for me to say this is the worlds best calamari when I haven’t had ALL of calamari but that’s not the point! The point is that you had a GREAT calamari. That now…with your new transformation to a ramen place had thrown that out.

Lately- ever since this new found reality of yourself. You have since skimped on the quality of the calamari. There are less frequent rings, larger, avoid of any salt or pepper and DOUSED in onions and peppers.

These are not the calamari of the past. And you’ve doubled the price - which fine, I’m willing to pay more for better quality. But when the quality goes down and the price keeps going up, this is when you lose your customer base.

I’m willing to support you, Chico&Chang - oops should I say “Tensan Ramen”, as long as you stick to what made you a stable in the east side community.

Bring back the calamari. You...

I have no idea how this restaurant has 4 stars. I got the chicken lo mein delivered to my hotel through grubhub at around 9pm. To start things off the chicken had a lot of fatty pieces to it, the noodles felt as if they were coated with something other than soy and oil, and about two hours after eating I was experiencing stomach cramps. I then began to violently throw up for the next 8 hours. Continuously to the point where I should have gone to the ER since I could not even keep water down, but I (a college student that is out of town) couldn't because my parents were asleep when I called and I didn't want to pay out of pocket for the visit. Whilst throwing up, bile came through my nose and created a sinus infection the next morning. So the day after this sinus crap started, I had a flight and if you don't know where this is already headed go ahead and research what happens when you have sinus issues on a flight. So now, three days later.. Still eating lightly, still have a sinus infection, accompanied by an ear infection in both ears from the plane ride. This place was NOT worth the trouble I've gone through. Do...

I’ve been a customer for over 2 years and eat here ATLEAST 2 times a week with the exact same order (10 piece lemon pepper wings + side of fried rice with no eggs or green onions). Well today I called in my order like I typically do so I could grab on my way back home and “Dev or Des” however she spelled it was EXTREMELY rude and disrespectful to me. She claimed I couldn’t get my typical order and said I can’t order (what I’ve been ordering for over 2 years might I add) because they don’t do that. I told her that’s my order and I just got it last week and she said she’s been working there for 5 months and they don’t do that. I explained to her that she could look up my order in the system since they can pull up past order history by my number and she said she can’t unless she charges me an additional $10 for my typical order. Then she cut me off and said “are you going to place an order” and when I asked if anything changed cause I always get the same order she hung up on me. So I would not give this business my money because they are rude and disrespectful and don’t respect loyal customers that frequent...

Crappy cheap Chinese. I did not order any of the Mexican. Like with most cheap take-out, it’s hit or miss with what you order. The portions are good for price, but the quality was not. I could not eat either of the soups that I ordered. The coconut soup (not pictured) had inedible pieces in it, like grass and maybe rind (?). The lemon was very overpowering. I also got a big piece of ginger at one point, which is not something you want to eat in large chunks. I did attempt to eat some of it, but got tired of having to pick out pieces. The flavor of the hot and sour soup was a little unusual. I literally tasted it, and then threw it away. It may have just been burnt, or sitting on a burner for too long. Also, it was not very spicy. The chicken lo mein, egg rolls, and crab rangoon were all okay.

Chico and Chang is a gem! Everything about our visit was great from the food to the service to the cozy ambience. My daughter ordered the avocado and cucumber roll, and it was super fresh and delicious. I was a bit cold when we arrived, and the manager kindly adjusted the temperature to make sure I was comfortable—such thoughtful service! We also had the original ramen, which had rich, flavorful broth and perfectly cooked noodles. The pork egg rolls were crispy and satisfying, and the mango tea with boba was sweet and refreshing. Our final dish was the Hunan scallops. It was full of bold flavor and packed with vegetables. Be warned: it’s got a serious kick if you’re not into spice, but we loved it. We’ll definitely be coming back!

Prices are MUCH higher than shown here on Google Maps. Chicken Egg Foo Young, for example, is shown at $8.25, but is really $13.50. When I asked the owner about this he played innocent and said he didn't know how to change it, so I took a comprehensive set of menu photos and uploaded them. However, now I only see one updated photo remaining and the prices are still very misleading, so I put the actual prices (as of Oct 2020) here. Even if they fix the prices, I still wouldn't support dishonest owners, especially when there are honest local business owners to support and the food itself was 3 stars.
