This place is absolutely worthy of five stars!!! I try to visit local ice creameries every time I travel and this place definitely ranks in my top ten - maybe even top five!
Not all ice creameries are created equal - every store has a different style and different strengths. To me, Morelli's has a slightly gourmet feel. Sometimes I get frustrated with these gourmet creameries because I feel like I have to choose between plain Jane flavors that they try to jazz up with a fancy name (i.e. Really just chocolate and vanilla) or some really weird flavors that shouldn't be in my dessert (i.e. Goat cheese or Rosemary). However, Morelli's does a fantastic job at being imaginative, but not ridiculous!
I did some sampling before I chose my two flavors, but I really loved all four that I tried. The Peanut Butter Cookie and the Black Cherry Chocolate Chip were both delicious. But since I traveled all the way from St. Louis, I figured I should go with something a little more unique - Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake and the East Indian. The former was a super rich chocolate, a flavor that was perfectly enhanced by the cream cheese aspect. And the rich raspberry swirl gave the perfect balance of tart and sweet. The ice cream itself was creamy and melted easily (just the way I like it)! This flavor is very similar to another favorite of mine - Chocolate Raspberry Truffle from Handel's in Indy.
The East Indian was awesome and totally different from anything I've had before!!! In KC, a place called Glacé makes an amazing Chai ice cream that I absolutely love. But I feel like Morelli's took this kind of flavor to the next level!! It has (what I think is) orange/lemon zest and a strong cardamom kick. Totally not what I was expecting, but oh so good!! This ice cream was a little more sense and took a while to melt, but was still nice and creamy.
I would totally recommend this place to anyone who loves creamy ice cream with unique flavors that will satisfy that sweet...
Read moreMy son and a few of his friends were looking for work to earn a little extra over the summer. One of his friends came across Morellis who was desperately in need of hiring. So of course once one of them applied, the word spreaded and they all applied! During the interview process my son mentioned that he new some of the others he would be working with. Even after providing this information they hired him on! Eager and excited he started his day of training and the next day he begin his first actual shift. Once his shift was finished, he was approached by Clarissa who informed him that he was no longer needed due to conflict of interest! When I asked him what she meant by conflict of interest he said she stated that they dont hire anyone that knows another person that they would be working with. i.e. boyfriend, girlfriends or friends! Although GA labor laws allow a company to fire individuals over pretty much anything, you would think Clarissa and Don are apart of the real world, at least this 21st century and are aware that all young adults know, or have some type of knowledge of one another due to social media and social interactions. You would also think...or at least one would hope, that they are smart enough to place students "who know one another or are some type of friend " on separate shifts. Therefore "Avoiding the conflict of interest" issue. Don and Clarissa, you run an ice cream parlor!! By society standards...your business is primarily meant for social interaction and networking!!! This review is primarily for students and any young adults searching for an easy going job over the summer. Morellis may not be the best place for you! Unfortunately, Don and Clarissa do not believe in the value of social interaction and networking and the effect it can have toward young adults futures! If anything, just look forward to their delicious ice cream and...
Read moreDecent little ice cream shop! I honestly had slightly higher expectations that weren't really quite met, but...it's ice cream, and I don't think I've ever had bad ice cream.
Like many ice cream shops, Morelli's is a walk-up type of place with a couple of tables and chairs to sit at outside. They were open till 10 on Sunday evening, so we found time after dinner to fly over and grab dessert. Even though we arrived at ~9:45, we were served politely and promptly, which I appreciate as I'm sure they wanted to wind down for the night.
I was a little disappointed in the flavor selection the night we went. I really wanted a more "special" type of flavor (more toppings/flavors mixed in, a la rocky road), but none of the ones that were available sounded good to me, so I wound up with plain chocolate. I paid 50 cents extra to add Oreos on top just for a little added texture.
It was fine. The chocolate was creamy with a nice texture, but not the most flavorful chocolate I've ever had. This is gonna sound like a weird complaint, but I honestly thought they put on too many Oreo pieces; they were so plentiful that every single bite I took was so loaded with Oreos I couldn't really even enjoy the texture of the ice cream, which was probably the best part.
My friends seemed happy enough with their scoops.
Overall, I'd consider revisiting to try out a different flavor of ice cream. Maybe better...
