I had company in town on Christmas Eve and we were looking for somewhere with a nice atmosphere, food and drinks. I appreciate them being open and giving great Customer service on a holiday. Thereās about 18 bar seats, a few low top tables, few high tops, couches in the middles and a few velvet, plush booths in the back. Out front thereās tables, but it isnāt the season to sit outside, great when weather permits. I like that thereās a different vibe for different guests. You can have a corporate meeting at a table, date night in the back in one of the plush booths or a group of friends on the couches. There was a limited tapas menu and we chose olives $8, pizza $8 and tuna tataki $14. Our drinks were $12 espresso martini and $14 cocktail. I took away 1 star for these things: we went to sit in the back in the booths, but itās in front of the restrooms. We didnāt want to sit there and just see people coming directly in and out the restroom making eye contact š. Iām recommending a velvet curtain, saloon door, beaded curtain, that area would be more tolerable. We moved immediately. At the bar there was clean, good looking bartenders, who were friendly and drinks were delicious. The olives we ordered took 20+ minutes to come out. I asked for it and it came out before the other items ordered, but I did think that was long for already marinated olives. When they came I loved them, So good! The pizza on naan bread and lightly seasoned tuna were both ok/mediocre. Tolerable and we ate it. Overall, I was satisfied with the atmosphere, drinks and service. I also appreciate that they gave us somewhere to go on a night mostly everywhere...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreA tavern most felicitous in its ambience, into which I once more did venture. Alas, on this occasion the strains of live music, which had so charmed me in a previous visit, were absent; the musician, no doubt, having slunk away to some other den of merriment, leaving only the echo of his former grace. Still, the atmosphere retained a certain velvet charm, quite literally, for the seating bore that plush texture which invites a man to linger longer than his purse might approve.
In one corner a company of merry souls engaged themselves in board games, their laughter spilling forth with such vigour that I half feared the very rafters would shake loose. They looked as though joy itself were their chosen intoxication, and I confess I admired them for their carefree hilarity.
As to the drinks, the tale turns curious. The libations are of good quality, make no mistake, yet the prices of certain concoctions soared to heights only a Bond villain might demand. To compound the absurdity, many were christened after characters from Mr. Flemingās tales. Imagine ordering āMiss Moneypennyā with a straight face! I very nearly requested a āBlofeld on the rocks,ā but thought better of tempting fate.
The cheesecake, I must record with a sigh, faltered somewhat in its duty, it promised delight, but delivered only politeness. Still, the establishment remains a most agreeable refuge, fit for an eveningās repose, provided oneās humour is stronger than oneās...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI will preface by saying the cocktails are pretty good here and service is usually slow which we donāt mind. The reason for the low stars is how unwelcoming weāve been made to feel. Iāve been here 4-5 times and this last time left my eyes in tears I was trying to hold back. I walked into a packed bar to order a martini. Two patrons in front me started to stare like I was in their space or annoying them. Very intensely I might add. which turned into hands close in my face, very rude comments all a few short minutes of me just waiting for my martini silently. The security guard came up to the woman at the bar and asked if everything was okay and unsure of what she said she continued on and I said sorry for not knowing what I had done. It seems if youāre not part of their āclicheā youāre not welcomed and this wasnāt the first time Iāve been made to feel like this. Itās really unfortunate because we want to give this place business as we like the staff and decor , but when youāre leaving a place in tears somethings not right. Vesper can...
