Maybe 40 people can be in here at once. Small but maximized layout for comfortable variety seating. You’re transformed to a different place with the dark/moody vibe and cool instrumentals. Tables, chairs, bar tops, glassware, silverware, art deco is all correct. Smells like good food is being cooked. Small menu that allows the daily specials to shine. A vegetarian can be happy with these fun eats. A big-back would probably prefer a more American common menu with lots of meat options. I imagine on popular days it’s easy to be packed so have a backup plan or be patient. Sunday evening was cool about half packed with only 1 server and 1 bartender. Surprisingly enough to handle it plus the small menu helps minimize ordering. AC boomin. The beautiful booth tables have a wide bottom base that makes it hard to sit in the middle of the booth without stepping on the base & bending my knees tight so I sat more to one side of the seat and laid my feet across. Felt very comfortable here.
Eggplant- I love the peanut and cilantro on top nice crunch and herb freshness. Asian sauce adds the right flavor to eggplant because in my opinion eggplant isn’t tasty so you need to add a punch flavor and this was the right miso. At home I would ditch the miso to be healthier. Nice portion and menu idea. Not for everyone but I’d order it again.
Roast beef sandwich- deliciously tender/perfect true roast beef taste with a generous gravy au jus, horseradish butter and soft bun. The butter looks like milk but it’s great accompaniment. Bottom bun gets soggy and could be toasted or braced with lettuce or onion. I know a true roast beef sandwich is just beef & bread tho. Two crispy onion rings would go hard on the side. I’d order again. Not sold everyday I don’t think.
Fish with Gumbo-Sunday Special. Real deal shellfish taste. Has chicken, okra, rice, sliced shrimp, and crispy southern fried fish. Lovely. Should have more rice. $28 is fair for this masterpiece. I’d order the same three dishes again. Want to try the wings, salads and any daily special they’re advertising.
The attaboy drink was very strong, kinda syrupy. Too thick for me. Old-fashioned was good.
Fish tray with hush puppies, collards, and Black Eyed Peas was utterly amazing and great value. Wings really Great with unique homemade cowboy sauce dip.
Pecan pie was great, but I wish it was served warm.. Love the date and chill vibes, plants, decor, service, great restroom (only one), chef inspired menu. Added this place to...
Read moreMy friends and I stopped by for their Polish food pop-up and didn’t have the best experience. Let me start by saying that it is NOT the staff’s fault, they were very very understaffed and clearly doing their best to manage the crowd. Wait times for food and drinks were very long, but when you only have three people working the floor for a full house, and two of them are ALSO bar tending, thats to be expected. Despite the high pressure, servers were still very courteous and friendly, they just definitely needed more hands on deck, and shame on management for not planning that better. Having someone do table service AND bar service? Whatever you paid those folks is NOT enough for that kind of stress, jeez. On to the food: I found it lacking in flavor tbh! I’ve had more traditional polish food plenty of times before and so this just wasn’t up to what i’m used to. It tasted like nothing was even salted (and unfortunately, there wasn’t any salt on the table to fix that!!). Even the pickles were kind of bland, and i am a huge pickle fan :-/ So that was disappointing, but it was just a pop up after all. Maybe their regular menu is better, but this was a miss for me. As for the atmosphere, maybe its more pleasant on less crowded nights, but it was just very cramped. I believe they have too many seats/tables for the size of the space. scale down, theres no point in trying to pack as many people in to the restaurant as possible if you can’t even keep up with the service needs. Again, this is at the fault of management: if you have less seats, that will make the wait times for food more reasonable, and take some of the pressure off staff. They also totally forgot to charge some of us for drinks, had we been less honest folks, that would have been a loss for y’all! We just went up and paid at the bar for them, but i don’t think most customers would and you guys probably lost a fair bit of cash on things like that (again, not staffs fault because its very difficult to keep track of that many orders in such a...
Read moreThe ambience feels like a speak easy, very dark with a small and tight intimate feeling. When we went there was not an empty seat in the house on a Friday. I love the atmosphere here, while it was crowded it wasn’t very loud.
They have a very small and limited menu. As much as it feels like a speak easy, the cocktail menu and liquors are way too limited. There were only 4 cocktails on the menu and none of them seemed worth 15 dollars. We opted for a martini and when we asked for Titos they did not have it, and were only offered two other options. As for a bar it just lacks creativity and selection.
The food was also underwhelming. We had the carrot dish, with mash potatoes, and prime rib. The most underwhelming were the carrots. They were undercooked, crunchy and not well seasoned. I loved what they added to it, a touch of mint, feta and honey but the carrots were far off. Cut in too big and haphazard chunks, it just was not executed well. The prime rib was a steal and we were wise to just order that between the two of us. It was an ordinary prime rib, but I felt well worth the value at 27 dollars. The best dish were the mash potatoes, gritty yet creamy with a well seasoned gravy.
Bottom line the atmosphere is terrific but the food and drinks were underwhelming. I don’t feel I’ll go back when Ticonderoga Club has the same vibe but far...
