First time eating here in a very long time. I came with a group of seven. The restaurant was clean. I’ll go ahead and get that portion of the review out the way. Both sitting area and male’s bathroom. Getting through the menu took a little bit. I thought it was a buffet at first, it isn’t. No disappointment, just a little confusion al with the set up. Food wise it was above average. We can personally attest to the fried catfish, fried chicken, and cube steak. All of which were great. Their fried okra was the entire okra lol. After trying it with a little skepticism, I was satisfied with the final product. The squash casserole was as good as advertised, and so was the mac and cheese. Good Mac coming from a connoisseur. Customer service….. I absolutely cannot explain how good our waiter was. I hate the fact I paid the tip at my order and didn’t have cash for him. Stephen was amazing; and as a business owner, I would absolutely hire him to be a shining example of what to be given this work environment. Everyone was polite and they were able to navigate us coming in as a group while managing a private party in the back. Impressed Overall, I felt like Fat Man’s earned the 5 stars (and I wasn’t in the mood for soul food today). Will recommend for others visiting town or that ask for suggestions.

I went there for lunch and I was amazingly surprised by the flavor, the warm welcome of our server and the fairly quick service. I had half sweet and half unsweetened tea as my drink, by far the best tea I have ever tried while in Georgia. The mac and cheese was on point and the gravy delicious. I thought it was a small plate but as I ate it got fully pleased and more than satisfied with the amount.

We had an amazing dining experience! Staff gave great recommendations, as I had plenty of questions. The waiter was extremely pleasant and tender to us very well. The food was good and gave the southern comfort that we were seeking. They had a lot of homemade dessert options that we didn't try but I had the fried chicken and grilled chicken breast with fried okra, mac n chz and a roll. Delicious!

I was looking forward to lunch with my husband. I am on a particular diet and ordered accordingly. But the food was not as described. I ordered cornbread and they brought me a roll, stating they were out of cornbread. Well why couldn't I have been told that when I ordered instead of them asking which one I wanted? I ordered pot roast. I was brought beef chunks on top of white rice that was covered with thick brown gravy. BTW, I don't eat white rice. This was NOT the description. I am SO DISAPPOINTED. Hard earned money down the drain. :-( (Side note: It would be nice to have the old Fat Man's back. It was a great experience.

UPDATE: Had to go ask for silverware. My food is close to room temperature. Collards are tender but lack seasoning. STILL waiting for my fries. This is eating up my entire lunch break. The disappointment keeps on giving. On the bright side, my husband says it is usually much better than this and he doesn't understand what is going on today. I hate that we had to tip when we paid instead of after services were rendered.

TIME TO GO NOW. We had to get up and go ask for the fries. Guess they will go in the doggie bag. Uggggg

Sadly this experience has turned me off of ever...

Had lunch with Co-worker yesterday at Fatman’s cafe. Due to location, parking is severely limited so take note that there are other businesses and Fatman’s using the parking lot so during normal business hours, the parking lot is pretty full. When you enter the Resturant, you are in the main dining room and as you make your way further through you will see the hot food counter but to order you continue walking past drink machines to 3 registers on the left. The menu is hanged on the walls up high behind the registers. So if you are unfamiliar and first visit, take note of that. Not really your typical cafeteria style soul food Resturant I am use to, you just order and your food is brought out to you. So I never saw what any of the meats or sides looked like, I asked based on recommendation of the cashier. They also have items you can order off the menu such as burgers and salads. Overall, the food was okay, none of my food was hot, I’d argue it was more on the cold side. I’ve had better style “soul food” but at least Augusta has this option. Pricing was a little on the higher end compared to other soul food...
