I travel the country full time. Over the past month Ive been to many different indian restaurants in search of the best indian that denver has to offer, (its kinda my obsession) and today, i found the one. There is no better place in all denver that does authenticity justice when it comes to indian food, than chutney indian cuisine.
For starters, while the menu is admittedly lacking in terms of some of the specific things one comes to expect when dining, such as kashmiri naan, one of my favorites, what they do have absolutely delivers. I dined in, and was blown away when the waiter told me they do not do free refills on their chai tea, which almost every indian restaurant ive been to in denver does offer, but when i tasted the first sip, i immediately understood why. While not as sweet as i prefer, because they let you sweeten it yourself, i have never tasted a more authenticly crafted indian chai. I swear they must have made it by hand because i could literally taste the individual spices used which is RARE to have in tea in general. It was incredible, like it was straight out of india.
I ended up getting the butter chicken with garlic naan. The waiter, might i add, seemed extremely humble and dedicated to his craft as did everyone in the building. He was a nice guy. When i had the first bite, it was as if an explosion of flavor burst into my mouth. The intricacies i was able to make out in the sauce and how perfectly cooked the chicken was, it was nothing short of perfection, and the naan was quite actually the best naan ive ever had, AND IVE HAD A LOT OF NAAN. (Its why I go to indian restaurants to begin with)
Everything screams authentic indian cuisine here, from the tea, to the food, to the wall decorations, to the music which when i visited was indian sitar and banjira duets that were amazing to hear and really set the mood of what the restaurant is going for. You will not find a better indian restaurant in denver than Chutney.
Note: I feel bad for whoever has the job of cutting the massive pile of onions they have in their kitchen. Literally get...
Read moreWe went to chutney few days back, worst experience ever. We called before going if they will be able to prepare anything without onion and garlic as I have severe allergies from them. They said they can prepare almost 8-10 items. We placed the order over the phone before going to dine in as it takes time. Went after 30 minutes and waited another hour before food was out. It was just a yellow dal and Chana masala. We went in and sat ourselves and got water ourselves after waiting half an hour. They don’t come to the table so I walked up to them to ask if they can make any appetiser and the front guy asked the chef and he showed attitude in front of the saying he can’t make anything else. Well we just waited for our food and when it ended up coming it was full of red onion and green onion on top. We have been waiting for 1 and half hour already. This very mice old guy who got our food out he said he will fix it. He took it back came out in about another half an hour and gave the food. My two year old was already tired hungry and mad so were we. They don’t serve basmati rice and rice was little undercooked which was still acceptable, I took the Chana noticed big pieces of red onions and green onions in there. The dal was full of onions too. I ended up eating only naan and they still charged us full price for everything without any apologies. As I thought I ended up getting allergies from eating a spoonful of Chana. People with allergies can die here because of there poor food handling skills and not caring for their customers. I don’t think I will ever bother to go there for this kind of service and environment with such poor sense and food handling place. They don’t even clean up the dirty tables so you end up sitting next to a dirty filthy table for your...
Read moreReally enjoyed this hidden jem of a restaurant. They seem super empty most of the days which always makes me wonder how they profit, but I really hope they stay up because this is one of the best Indian places I've been to in Colorado so far. First of all, their service is super good and attentive. Of course being the only dine in customers during the time (twice) helped and the occasional door dash/pickup person would come in. They always filled our waters and they would give all of my family their meals at the same time. My father struggled with some of the spicy curry and they gave him free yogurt and mango lassi to help him with the spice. They even gave us a 10% discount coupon as well.
Food: Here's the part that matters the most of course. So far I've tried their chicken tika masala, butter chicken curry, and the lamb curry. All of them tasted phenomenal. My personal favorite creamy dish is the butter chicken curry. I ordered a mild and a medium spice and they both were perfect. They add a lot of chicken inside of the curry and they don't cheap out on the sauce either. I always have leftovers here. Make sure you buy the naan because it's also amazing!
My only gripe with this restaurant is that I wish their rice was a little better. Their basmati rice tasted a little cheap, it was a little hard and dry. I think they probably don't put enough water in it, but nevertheless they give you so much, and ordering the naan as well... You don't get to really eat the rice haha. Anyway I think the curry was so good that it overshadowed the fact that the rice wasn't...
