La Morena Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Aurora

This place is UNREASONABLY loud. I stopped by for lunch around 2:30p on a Saturday. I am grateful I brought my ear plugs and even with them this place is still so loud. I used my sound app (Niosh) on my iPhone and it measured levels 80 db. I went and looked at a chart and it says ~80 db is around the same as an airplane cabin and I think I need a new app or an actual scientific instrument to measure db because being on an airplane is more pleasant- environmentally- than being here. As far as the food— the tortilla chips were too thick, sort of stale, and lacking enough salt. I prefer thinner tortilla chips. There are lots of people sitting by themselves at tables staring blankly at something with metal pales full of ice and beer. There must be some special going on. My Coke is good. I asked for extra limes. I ordered two crispy chile rellenos which came with the standard rice and bean combo. It also came with guacamole which was nice. I wanted the crispy chile rellenos because I like the crunch. These rellenos are flaccidly disappointing. They also taste like beer which was unexpected. The guacamole was garnished with a single radish slice and that really didn’t do anything for me. If my 5 year old was with me I would give her the radish slice. But she wouldn’t enjoy it here because it’s too loud. The location- on the corner of Colfax and Dayton- is a great spot for people watching. I’m sitting at a table on the exterior- near their wood-framed storefront- and Dewalt must have had a sale because guys keep walking into the pawn shop with brand new unboxed Dewalt power tools. I was already a fan of La Morena from their Colfax location, but this new one completely blew me away. It’s got more of a true restaurant vibe — super clean, welcoming, and beautifully decorated with gorgeous flowers hanging from the ceiling (yes, they’re fake — but fabulous!).✨🌸

The energy inside is amazing. The staff was friendly and most speak Spanish, which made the experience feel even more authentic (and no worries if you don’t — everyone was super accommodating). As someone who speaks Spanish, I loved hearing it throughout the night.

Now let’s talk about the food! 🔥 I already knew what to expect from the menu, but it was my partner’s first time — and watching his face light up when they brought out his pineapple dish was everything! 🍍

We did have a little mix-up with the food not being hot when it first came out, but honestly, we were so caught up in enjoying each other’s company that it didn’t even bother us at first. Once we mentioned it to our server, she immediately took care of it — super professional, warm, and made us feel valued. 🙌

The real cherry on top? The surprise celebrations happening around us! One table was celebrating a wedding or engagement with dancers in colorful costumes, and another had inflatable costume characters for a birthday party — so much joy and good energy! 💃🎉🕺

It was one of those nights that leaves you smiling all the way home. I absolutely plan to come back — next date night is already in the works. 💕...

Really excellent service by the staff (Hottest, bartender and the Dj/Karaoke Manager). My first time coming to this place was for a family member's birthday dinner and as soon as I walked in I was greeted by a very beautiful hostess with a friendly smile. We had somewhat of a large group so the staff was nice enough to put a few tables together so that we were all able to sit together. We were seated close by to the Karaoke machine for some after dinner Karaoke and we also had a great view of the television sets that hung by close over head. The food was delivered to our table not too long upon ordering it. I had the Carne Asada platter which was bigger then expected but I wasn't complaining and not only was it bigger then expected it was also better then expected, really delicious. Overall I'm giving this place 5 out of 5 stars and I would recommend this place to anybody who wants a good old fashion mexican meal. I would surely return for another meal sometime soon (and I did about 2 weeks later). I'd like to thank the staff for all there great service and just wanna say "keep up the great work".
