I learned about Anderson's before I ever set foot in Austin. I read about Anderson's during the first wave of the slow spread nationwide of good local coffee roasters and sellers. It was 1975 and I was a graduate student in Madison, WI working part-time as a food coop. in a new book, Joel Schapira, The Book of Coffee and Tea: A Guide to the Appreciation of Fine Coffees, Teas, and Herbal Beverages, that would nestle in beside *Diet for a Small Planet* and the *Moosewood Cookbook*(s) on my shelves, Anderson's was listed as one of the few fine coffee dealers in the south-southwest. When I first visited Austin in winter of 1983, i made a bee line to two places. Antone's blues club and Anderson's coffee, the two local pillars of my idea of what the ancient Greeks called τὸ εὖ ζῆν 'living well' in a way that would not invite the wrath of the gods. I moved to Austin permanently in 1986 and have had the great good luck for the last 1/3 of a century to buy my coffee in Jamie's sanctuary for people who care about good coffee: Anderson's in Jefferson Square. The people who care for the coffee and teas and related paraphernalia in Anderson's are caring people. They care about coffee and they care about customers. Anderson's is a true mecca, an oasis, the promised land for coffee lovers.

A friend of mine—an enabler who supports my coffee addiction—went to Austin and called me from Anderson’s Coffee to ask what I wanted. I was looking through their online menu and started pinging questions to the barista, and could hear his responses. “How was __this one__ processed?” “How is __this one__ usually brewed — Is it good for espresso?” I could hear the barista’s responses. He didn’t miss a beat and patiently answered every one of my questions, and offered great recommendations. I haven’t tried every bean yet, but so far, I have to say that the Arabian Mocha is MIND BLOWING! I’ll definitely be putting this Anderson’s on the top of my list of places to order roasted coffee (shipped to me) and will be paying a visit anytime I go to Austin in the future!

I was informed about this coffee company just yesterday, so I made a trip today ☺️ this boutique offers an array of coffee flavors including seasonal blends! They did not have samples BUT Spread, a next door eatery, boasts the blends ☺️I was 100% satisfied with the in depth interaction within the cozy, comforting cornucopia of the inticing selection of teas, coffee and ALL. THE. THINGS that go with the enjoyment of a proper tea ritual, and I daresay, coffee ritual 🥰 I enjoyed selecting a new teacup for a Meowther's Day gift along with a tea and coffee blend that they ground just for me 🥰 I can't wait to get back!

I would give zero stars if possible. I have spent thousands of dollars at this store for my coffee going back over 10 years. Recently they have lost me as a customer forever. I urge you to reconsider shopping here. What did it for me was more than just the increase and price and decrease in quality. It was their terrible customer service. I went into the store ready to buy $500 worth of coffee (i buy for my friends and family when we all run out). However the service was abysmal. A clique of employees were standing around behind the counter chatting about some party or something and were completely ignoring me. Then when I managed to get their attention by almost yelling "could i get some service please" , one of them peeled off of the conversation and showed obvious disdain for pulling them away. I recited my order (very long for the dollar amount) and then the girl said "I'm sorry I didn't get all that could you repeat it?" So I recited it again only to have her say again, "I missed some of that, let me get something to write it down". So after the third recital, she started grinding it. About halfway through the order, she put a few pounds on the counter when I noticed it was not ground for the type of brewer I had specified. She insisted it is what I had asked for but she was wrong. After a near argument, she relented to start grinding all over the correct way. It took close to an hour for what should have been a 15-20 minute stop (there were no other customers). I will never buy coffee from them again after being treated this way. There are plenty of coffee roasters in the round rock area. Oh that is the other thing I have to travel all the way from Round Rock just to be...

First time visiting was such an amazing experience. The staff are all SUPER helpful and great for all "levels" - whether you're an experienced coffee/tea enthusiast or if you're just starting the journey. They took great care in helping me find what was truly best for me. All the associates work together collaboratively, even when they are busy. I love that! Not to mention, the interior itself is very cute and well organized. Loads of accessories and gear for coffee and tea hobbies alike. They have a BUNCH of coffee stuff, I think the only thing I didn't see was espresso gear specifically (tamper, WDT, portafilter, etc.) but that's okay. Maybe they sell it and I didn't see it? This place is just great. They're even flexible on their coffee sizes if you're trying a new blend/roast for the first time. They also pack the bag in front of you so you know it's the freshest of the fresh. This will be my go-to place for beans from now on. Can't speak highly enough!

(For those visiting for the first time, there is street parking as well as a tiny parking lot right in front of the store. Their entrance canopy thing is now black instead of red, but should still be easy to see from the road. Keep in mind they don't sell drinks here, but you should definitely buy their tea/coffee and brew it at home!...

Disclaimer: I have not been to the shop in-person. This is merely a review utilizing my PERSONAL OPINION of the quality of coffee sold at Anderson's.

TL;DR: If you're looking for lighter roasts, or '3rd wave' coffees, this probably won't be your go to. If you want fresh beans and darker roasts, you'll love it

My go-to coffee roaster was in a 'slump' so I decided to try something new. I found Anderson's online (I'm in the Dallas area) and decided to give them a go. I got 5 1lb bags: •Sumatra •Dark Sumatra •Papau New Guinea •Guatemala Palhu •Arabian Mocha

To be transparent, I tend towards Light to Medium roast. I think all 5 bags are a bit over-roasted, with the Dark Sumatra being the most so (very oily beans), and the New Guinea and Guatemala beans being the least so (just the smallest trace of oil on some of the beans). Across the board, the profiles are very similar (Smoky, present bitterness, with the 'lighter' roasts having just a smidge of spicy nuance).

As to the positives: Andersons is extremely efficient. I ordered Thurs AM, and my coffee was here Fri AM! The beans are also VERY fresh. Every bag I've tried, the bloom has been massive.

I wouldn't buy again for myself, but I would get the beans for family/friends who really enjoy darker coffees. For the price and freshness, it's...
