In regard to Edgars single star, if Jackie Smith (RIP Sir) told you to leave, he had a very good reason. To imply it was to Mexico is insane, considering the quality of this fine gentleman. I've never been told to 'go back where I came from' because I handle myself properly - clearly, there is more to your story.
As for the bar itself? I'm a born and bred Yankee from Boston. Upon coming into this dark little dive bar the first time, I was impressed with the clientele and staff. VERY laid back, literally some of the coldest beer in town, and they take cash and credit. The jukebox is an older NON internet unit - while I am not a country western guy, the mix and type of music on it is amazing, featuring everything from Willie Nelson, to Jackies Brother Son (Son Geezinslaw). And of course the girls behind the bar - some of the very best, welcoming, and fun to deal with. Pool is 75 cents a game, the carpet from an old motel it seems, a full length shuffleboard, music, darts, and some weird ass decorations including a bug eyed Mexican mannequin.
So if you are roaming around, and see a blue cinder block building devoid of windows and a John Wayne on the wall, stop on in - nicest people in town, and...

Getting to Buddy’s is easy as they have a designated parking area out back. Once parked you’re greeted by their patio area where there is a door for entry into the main bar. They are dog friendly, a very big plus considering most don’t allow dogs at all. The bar itself is a bit divey with a domino and pool tables setup in the main area. The patrons are all very welcoming as are the workers, it definitely gives you a warm feeling to be there. We ordered 3 mixed drinks, which were all solid and the total came out to $18. Can’t beat that price up north.
One of the biggest highlights was the live music in the back. They have live music consistently throughout the week so you can always catch a performance. It is very easy to pass time in this bar between the music, games, and just good company overall. We didn’t have a neighborhood bar yet but this place might just be the answer to that (a lot of that has to do with how comfortable the patrons and workers...
Read moreOnly a few things I could say I liked about this place. One, it is an established original Austin dive bar. Two, when I was there I got friendly service and I was the only black man in the place so, they can't be THAT racist! I have read some reviews suggesting racism. Their might be, I only felt that when I first walked in the door and got a few looks from the regulars but, I knew people that were there, I guess that was the litmus test. The smell of this place is OLD! I swear it smells like it hasn't been cleaned since the 60's! It took an hour long shower to get rid of the smell once I got home and then I had to febreeze the car! The chairs that I sat on looked and smelled like they were pulled from a trash heap. If being in a place that displays Confederate flags bothers you, you might not...
