I dined at this place during Christmas and I simply cannot rave enough about the Food, Service, and Atmosphere. I will try to recount my entire time there, but this is ultimately impossible as the experience was so dense that at times I started seizing due to the complexity.
I brought my beautiful girlfriend “B” (I will be concealing her entire name as she acted out of character due to the muse-like nature of the food and overall dining) and we were immediately greeted by a hostess. She seated us. Although I generally only drink water, due to the hostesses’ absolutely charming demeanor, I ordered a diet coke. We put our jackets down and went to the buffet. A child was at the buffet trying to grab the crawfish bare handed. Instantaneously, an alarm sounded and he was carried off by a group of four women. He was forced to watch an instructional “reeducation” video detailing proper table manners. I sampled all of the fried delights as an appetizer. I remember very little of them because they were so delicious that I had my first seizure. I was resuscitated and allowed to continue my dining as I did not regurgitate any of my food during my episode which most like affected every single part of my brain.
I went up for my main meal. While I was obtaining various chicken dishes like chicken with broccoli, chicken lo-mien, jalapeno chicken etc., a man dressed in a trench coat in the corner signaled me to come over to him. He asked if I wanted to see the fights. I asked what he meant by this. He explained to me that there was a chicken fighting ring in the alley that was unaffiliated with the restaurant. I told him no. I was uninterested in watching an avian fight. I then inquired into the legality. He said, “of course of course” and then started muttering how he read me wrong. He then left through the back door. Curious, I followed him. I found a crowd of people all in a circle. I pushed myself through to see the center. What I saw, I still don’t quite understand. In the center was a bucket of KFC fried chicken with two chicken legs. They were all cheering. I looked at all of them and quickly decided to leave as I did not want to be part of some Havana-syndrome like group delusion.
When I went inside my generally very well mannered girlfriend had lost her mind due to the otherworldly taste of the food. She had inserted her fingers into ten pork egg rolls and had filled up a plastic liter drinking glass and was chugging egg drop soup. Before I had time to intervene, the four women quickly led her back to watch a “reeducation” video. After roughly ten minutes, she came back and apologized to everyone for her absurd behavior.
I finished off with their delicious desserts and we left. As the lo-mien is coursing through my veins I can only say that I feel my being is greater now. I feel as if through the food I now have an answer to the mind-body duality distinction that has plagued mankind since Descartes. Anyone that rates Buffet King less than 5 stars not only has faulty taste buds, but is most likely merely sabotaging their ratings because they themselves are in the...
Read moreSaturday night around 8:30pm We decided to go to buffet king for dinner since it is the only option we have in the North East area. the time was 8:30pm when we set down for dinner. They normally close at 10pm on Saturdays, so i was thinking well there will be plenty of time to have dinner, minimum one hour for my whole family of 4 adults and a child. Our server was very sweet and attentive to us according to my 16 year old daughter. The only issue here is that there is not good food after 8pm, also not many food items available. For example I went to the sushi bar at 8:35 and the guy was almost Enty with not many rolls available for the guests, besides that he never made any sushi the rest of the night. My second choice was the Mongolian Grill and guests what! It was Enty with no beef, not chicken No noodles and most of their vegetables enty Yes at 8:45pm one Hour and 15min before closing. This one is almost my favorite part of the buffet kind and I don’t have any this time because of the condition of the options. My 3rd option was the hot food tables, my favorite is the general t’so Chicken and fried rice to be quick the chicken was too tough to chew and the Rice was dry and maybe prepared few hours ago. Those items are my daughter favorite food too and there were eating fruit instead because of the food quality. Me too, and the only item that I really enjoyed was the Hot and sour soup that was delicious and made to perfection, I also enjoyed the 6 piece of fried shrimp. No one leave full that night and normally we enjoy the food until we are satisfied especially because we are enjoying the buffet options but this time we asked the server to bring the check so we can go home early instead of being there just trying to find something good but most of the food containers were Enty and those with food hard and dry. This place have been my favorite because they normally have everything fresh and stocked with nice selections but not this time. We are clients of this place since they open here in Austin so I have the rewards card stamps so at the end of the night that was my only good Part Lol, getting 4 stamps for my $75 dollars bill. I also noticed that this place looks like is under a different management, there was a Young man that was at this place from the beginning of the opening and he was more attentive to the food item and he was checking in tables. and look Like he’s not there anymore because I was there with my daughter 2 weeks ago and he wasn’t there. Anyway I hope they can do better I know it was almost time to close but one hour and half before closing is still time to keep fresh food for the guests especially almost $20 per person.

Read more5 stars solely for the above and beyond wait staff! We had a birthday party and the waitress who was assisting us exceeded all expectations. Her attention to detail and caring attitude set this place above most restaurants within the area that cater to party events. I must say I had my doubts at first coming in but I left very satisfied and bummed that I decided to only partake in their Mongolian grill and sushi/sashimi.
I can’t say or recommend to much of the food on the buffet and that’s solely because I filled myself up on the Mongolian grill. Based Solely for the looks of the buffet food that my party had gotten, everything looked delicious but judging by their expressions and amount of times everyone cleaned their plates, yes multiple plates per person were cleaned, it seemed to have tasted exceedingly well.
We also had a picky eater with us and this is one of the few times he’s asked for more food before we left; so from a picky eater kids perspective the food must have been good to get him to ask for seconds and thirds. This kid doesn’t ask for more unless it’s Mac & cheese and there wasn’t any Mac & Cheese there that I saw.
The Mongolian grill was on par with others in the area but that might have solely been my fault as the cook added a few other things to my plate that he said would pair well. Reguardless of the additions, it was good and on par with some other Mongolian grills within the area.
Their sashimi was excellent as well and I was left quite surprised as I wouldn’t have expected that level of quality from a buffet. They’re not anywhere near the quality of established specialized sushi restaurants but they are hands down significantly well above their competitors and at the entrance of their own sushi restaurant with just the generic options they have for a buffet.
I would like to come back and experience more kinds of their sushi should they decide to expand to other sushi specialties or nigiri. I will be making a return trip in order to taste the quality of the buffet food as remembering everyone’s [multiple] plates being cleared has me wanting to experience Buffet Kings savory food...
