We had our wedding on November 19th. While I have been vegan for 15 years and love to support vegan establishments, Capital City Bakery has been a huge disappointment. My wife and I trusted them to have us a cake for our wedding day. It was a naked pineapple and coconut cake. When I get to Chapel Dulcinae, there is no cake. We called and they said they put the wrong delivery time down at 12 instead of 10 am. Their rectification was to deliver a much smaller cake, but the ceremony and small reception would have been over by then. This makes me wonder, because if the original cake was made to be there at 12, then why would a smaller cake had been delivered by 12? The original should have been completed earlier that day. Most likely they forgot. The time frame does not match their reasoning as to why the original cake wasn't there.
My wife noticed the cake missing as she was walking toward the Chapel for her walk down the isle. She I had to tell her after our vows and she said she saw it was missing. The empty cake was great for pictures though (sarcasm intended). There was a photograph of us taken as we both walked up to what would have been a cake, but an empty cake stand sat in its place. Everyone asked what bakery it was and of course the non vegans joked and said "this is why you buy a real cake." We were hoping to show them an excellent vegan cake.
They did apologize and refund our money. But I keep seeing my wife sad about the cake. We were going to freeze a piece for our 1 year anniversary as this is a tradition for some. Well, that won't happen either. This is honestly something is negligence as a business. Their excuses were that a manager put the wrong time down (but the time frame I mentioned above did not match this claim) and that they were busy making pies for Thanksgiving. Hopefully folks got their thanksgiving pies since it trumpeted...
Read moreTHEE ABSOLUTE BEST VEGAN CAKE. My husband and I got married 8/24/19 in Austin, TX and had Capital City Bakery make our cake and we could not have been happier with it. We went with a vanilla cake, with chocolate pastry cream filling and espresso buttercream. As a vegan for over 5 years I have had my fair share of vegan cakes and frostings and typically the frostings are either way too sweet or taste like vegan butter, but Capital City had the perfect creamy, just right amount of sweet buttercream without any of the off-putting vegan butter flavor. (Also there was espresso powder in it, so 10/10). The cake itself was perfectly moist yet fluffy and the pastry cream was the perfect amount of chocolate to break-up the sweet (and to give me my chocolate fix). All of our guests LOVED the cake and no one guessed it was vegan. Two of our guests said it was the best frosting they'd ever had (vegan or non-vegan). Capital City Bakery was so accommodating with making the cake exactly what I wanted, AND for a great price! (Half of what other bakeries were quoting me.) I cannot recommend Capital City Bakery enough! And I can't wait to go to the bakery the next time...
Read moreokay, so my beef has nothing to do with the product - some of the best vegan baked goods you could ever want are indeed here. HOWEVER. this business has only been open “by appointment only” for /months/ now, and the only mention of this is a hand-written sign they have taped to the door and one little line in their instagram bio. no posts were made to communicate these changes to their customer base, and google does not reflect these changes. their brick and mortar is NOT open to the public anymore. you can only order via their site or by phone, but those yield issues of their own. the site will list every item as unavailable, or there will be some other site-related issue preventing you from ordering, or they won’t answer their phones. I honestly don’t know how they’ve managed to stay afloat at this point. I really love this business and want to support it, but it’s become increasingly harder to do so. as constructive criticism for ownership - please be more communicative if you want to maintain what’s left of your...
