We came here for dinner on a weekday. Ordered the Ceviche de Pescado and the Lomo Saltado - finally found a great Peruvian restaurant in Austin! (and it's in a tiny food truck)
First came the Lomo Saltado, which was delicious! The first thing that caught my attention was the orange sauce provided with the lomo, which was mildly spicy and mixed great with the rice and fries adjacent to the lomo. The meat itself was cooked very well, even if you don't consider the fact that this came from a tiny food truck - it was juicy and flavor-filled, with plenty of sauce all around it as well as the caramelized red onions and tomato. It had a delicious taste that wasn't dependent on the cilantro, but the little bit on the top improved it still. The steak fries were tasty and crunchy too, and the rice was a bit dry, which meant it absorbed the flavor of the sauce and adjacent ingredients.
Following that, we had the ceviche, which was marinating since he started making the lomo - needless to say, it was juicy and delicious, with the raw fish and all the onions and corn having the same juicy flavor from sitting in the citrus. It used the real peruvian corn (choclo), which is larger and has a thicker texture inside. It was even garnished with the snacky, crunchy version of the corn commonly served at peruvian restaurants while you wait. Delicious, and again, very reasonable portions. For this dish, he asks how spicy you'd like it - we got mild, which was more than enough (unless you love super spicy thai food, in which case you can definitely go with medium or hot).
Overall, being born and raised in Peru, I am very happy with the both the quality and quantity of the food, and the friendly service is a big plus. Both of the dishes we had tasted great, just like my family back home makes. Having finally found a good place for Peruvian food in Austin, I will...
Read moreWOW I am blown away by how incredibly delicious this place was. My Peruvian family and I went there last night and I was in awe of of how fresh and tasty the dishes were. As we walked up, I noticed the welcoming display of tables and chairs for guests to dine at, complete with big spray which came in handy! A hospitable gesture and friendly invitation to make ourselves at home. The warm aroma of fresh herbs and spices filled the air. I could almost taste the lomo saltado before ever receiving it! The chef was friendly and hard working. He managed to stay so calm and professional under pressure and seemed to be the only one taking orders AND cooking. We waited an appropriate amount of time, given the chef’s circumstances, and goodness was it worth it! Arroz choufa came first and delighted my senses with its tender balance of garlic, ginger and green onion. It was filled with all sorts of fresh ingredients and sent my pállate on a journey of flavors! Next, the star of the show, and my absolute favorite Peruvian dish, lomo saltado!! The steak literally melted in my mouth. It’s rich and vibrant flavors paired well with steak fries and perfectly cooked garlic rice. It was gone in a matter of minutes. The chef also uses some personal touches to finish off the dishes by adding his own zesty sauce on the side of each. Even the salchipapa had its own sweet and tangy sauce on top. Ceviche 7 is a must try if you love Peruvian food and wish to support local chefs who put their heart, soul and lots of love into...
Read moreIf you're looking for good food, this is the place. There are so many reasons to love Ceviche7. The quaint and hospitable atmosphere of a friendly food truck, a good location adjacent to Spiderhouse, or the phenomenal quality of the food itself are just some of the few reasons I often choose to eat here. However, above all else, the reason why I choose to get my food from Ceviche7 is that the man who runs it has a clear passion and love for the meals he creates.
I once asked him how he runs his business, why he doesn't have anyone else in the truck to help, etc. He told me that he wouldn't want anyone else doing it because it might mess up the authenticity of the Peruvian nature of the food. He personally gathers all of the ingredients, hand cuts the vegetables, prepares the sauces and more to make each dish. I was astonished to hear it! With all of that effort he doesn't overcharge at all. In fact, I'd think he's undercharging for the amount of effort he puts into it.
The one and only issue is, because of that effort, it does take a little bit longer than a normal food truck to deliver the food. Once you figure this out, though, you can call ahead and be there without a wait.
If you want authentic Peruvian food for a killer price go to Ceviche7. This guy absolutely kills it and it's killing me I can't remember his name. I should mention he's always super polite and kind. Check out this place for dinner if none of the vegan food trucks suit your fancy and your chilling at...
