Please read if you are interested in seeing how Maudie's cares, & goes above & beyond for their guests. I had to come out of Yelp retirement to spotlight excellent customer service! My brother's 50th bday was this week, & as he lives in Washington DC now, (but spent years for work in Austin), he calls Austin his second home, & Maudie's his favorite tex mex restaurant. He started taking me over a decade ago. I find that everything on the menu is fresh & amazing. My brother found his favorite, Enchiladas Perfecto. There's amazing sauce on top, that he claims no one can replicate. You see, when he moved, he tasked his wife with trying to make it- fail. He searched restaurants fall & wide for something similar on this signature sauce - Fail. He could not find. He talks about it all the time. So, naturally when his 50th bday came up, & you have to find a gift for the guy who has everything? Long story short, I live in Florida. I sent an email explaining my brother's love for Maudie's and the sauce, and asking a tall order - is there a way I can purchase and you can somehow send to him in DC. I received text messages and amazing communication about making it happen! I honestly was quite surprised. This team took time out of their schedule to prep some extra fresh sauce, package it up, get it to USPC packed in dry ice and had it delivered on his bday! They went further, threw in a hand written card, & a really cool hat! To say he was surprised & overjoyed, is an understatement. A wonderful local company went above and beyond, and now we will tell this story to everyone! They could have ignored my e-mail. They could have said, hey we dont really do that....its a pain to send it out blah blah blah. Someone cared enough about their guests and raving fan to make a bday wish come true. There's lots of wonderful Mexican food in Austin, and all very different. But if you want fresh, amazing food while getting the best attention to customer service, go to Maudies. They actually care about your business! Thank you team Maudies for making my brother the happiest man on his bday, and for making me the champion of "the best present" award! Here's a goofy pic of him and his daughter, as they made some cheese enchiladas at home, with the famous added Perfecto sauce that he loves so much! Bday Boy & His silly daughter: Homemade...
Read moreI had the greatest experience with the folks at Maudie's today. First of all really! Do try the Shrimp Tacos from the skinny menu! it is seasoned just right, has black beans and avocado and it's gluten free. Next, the people who run Maudie's are the best! I had a mishap today where I ordered something from the South Lamar restaurant on the app and it popped up on the North Lamar restaurant. I was gimpy from a bad sprain. Hot because it's way hot right now in Austin, no travel Covid summer! And tired from being at the doctors and having to wear my COVID-19 mask all day feeling weird from that. So, I am not sure if it was me or if it was the app. Probably me! I thought it might be the app because I was sure I picked Maudie's too. I thought I should tell them just in case it was not me being fat fingered on the app. So I ended up getting to know the managers of the restaurants, and the head of operations and even the head of the whole company. They all called me back! Do you know how Maudie's got started? Well Joe the CEO was looking for a place to rent and he was knocking on doors near Lake Austin (LBL). He couldn't find the place ... then a lady popped out and said, "Hey you don't want to buy a restaurant do you?" Tada! That became the first Maudie's over on Lake Austin Boulevard. And that lady was Maudie. Really great team, and after driving up S Lamar that is feelign like a bit of a shadow of it's former self, it's great to see Maudie's...
Read moreWent in to get a quick dinner before our movie. We had an hour to get some drinks and food. We were seated outside and it was very busy throughout the restaurant. 5 minutes after being seated we got some water and salsa by 2 separate people (not waiters) who said nothing to us. We waited a total of 15 minutes with our menus closed never once having a server come to our table or even look at us. We tried flagging down several servers to no avail. Finally we got up and left because at this point even with just appetizers we probably wouldn't make our movie. On the way out we told the manager who apologized but didn't seem all that concerned. We told him we were very disappointed because this was our first time visiting a maudies and having tried all the other popular tex-mex places in Austin we wanted to see how they stacked up. The manager said "come back tomorrow I'll be in...". I'm not sure what they means but what's my incentive to come back in? I'm not demanding anything free or anything but if you know a first time guest is walking out because they haven't been served or even approached by a server you'd think you'd offer them some free appetizers or drinks or something to give them a reason to come back in. That's hospitality 101 right there. We're not going to be coming back for sure just to see the manager?! That doesn't make sense.
To their credit the salsa was quite tasty, sad I didn't get to try their food or...
