I went to Ocean Blue Oyster Bar in Austin to order seafood crabs, shrimp, and crawfish. There were two older women working as servers, and one of them took my order. I specifically asked for my sauce to be spicy, and she assured me it would be. We waited patiently, but from the moment we walked in, these two were already acting rude for no reason. Their attitudes were nasty, and they kept giving us dirty looks like we had done something wrong just by existing in the restaurant.
When we finally got our food, they had the nerve to act even more irritated clearly because they didnât get a tip. First of all, this was a takeout order. I am definitely not giving not tipping a rude old woman. Second, even if I had considered tipping, their horrible attitude made sure that wasnât going to happen. They were beyond unprofessional rolling their eyes, making faces at us, and whispering behind the counter. And it wasnât just a few annoyed glances these grown women, who looked like they were in their 40s or 50s, were full on talking trash about me and my little sisters. Imagine being that old and acting so immature toward literal kids.
And letâs not forget the fact that they didnât even get my order right. After all that attitude, youâd think theyâd at least do their jobs properly. But no, my order was messed up, and the sauce I specifically asked for was not spicy like they said it would be. If they were that desperate for a tip, maybe they should have been decent human beings instead of acting like entitled, bitter children. No one is going to tip for bad service, and their behavior was downright disgusting. They clearly didnât care about customer service, only about money. If they donât want to do their job with a basic level of respect, they shouldnât be working in customer service at all.
Honestly, itâs embarrassing to see grown women acting this childish. Youâd think after all those years on this earth, they would have learned some basic manners, but clearly not. Instead, theyâre out here acting like entitled teenagers throwing a tantrum because they didnât get a tip for a takeout order, no less. If theyâre this miserable at their job, maybe they should find a new one instead of taking it out on customers.
They werenât just rude they were straight up bitter, unprofessional, and pathetic. Picking on younger customers and gossiping like high schoolers? Thatâs beyond embarrassing. At their age, youâd expect some level of maturity, but instead, they acted like petty, miserable people with nothing better to do. Maybe if they put half the energy they wasted being rude into actually doing their jobs, they wouldnât be so desperate for a tip. But hey, I guess some people never grow up.
They also took out a additional tip on their own when charging us 20% for them So they wanted extra tip maybe they should get a better job and stop...
Read moreIf I could give a zero star I would. But I'll leave 1 star for the only redeeming dish which was raw oysters and it's the only thing that they did not make from scratch, lol. Heard about this restaurant from my Thai mom and was there for a family dinner. Every dish was below average... Not even for American standard and certainly not Thai standard. We ordered many dishes such as Salmon Wrap, Papaya Salad, Tom Yum Soup, Yum Nur Beef, Basil Pork, Fried Flounder, Chicken Satay, Moo Ping and more. A family member refused to eat the satay after taking a bite. The yum nur Beef was bland and soaked in a pool of watery sauce. Comments were as if the beef had been boiled instead of grilled, nobody wanted to eat it after trying a bite. Papaya Salad was horrid with stale papaya and weird seasoning with bad use of fermented fish sauce. Salmon wrap was again with strange flavor and full of random herbs and veggies that didn't go well. Tom Yum Soup was under seasoned and had fish in there, like fish? Even a Thai person is confused. Basil Pork used jalapenos instead of Thai chilis and just looked so sad. Fried Flounder was an epic disappointment with another off flavor that didn't mix well. Tasted their spicy seafood sauce on the side and it was so bad that I'm glad I tasted it separately before deciding to put on the oysters and inadvertently saved the oysters from the wretched sauce. Moo Ping came with a green chili relish sauce that didn't taste good with the pork. Also what's with the huge wedges of iceberg lettuce on almost every plate? It's like I didn't pay to have half of the plate to be full of iceberg lettuce.
Also don't count on the cleanliness, we got a dirty plate at the beginning of our meal. The faucet in the ladies room was unsecured and the bathroom looked poorly finished. The lady who served us was trying to be friendly but we asked if we can speak to a Thai person so my mom can ask about the dishes she's curious.... Never got someone Thai to discuss.
I regret choosing this restaurant for a family reunion meal because it was the most disappointing meal. My Thai mom got duped from her friends who said they had good papaya salad over there but this was the worst Thai inspired restaurant with seafood fusion. If you must come here, just get anything that they don't make in-house like fresh oysters and beer. But let me warn you, this place tasted so bad that I didn't even want to take any photo of...
Read moreEvery time I go there I am shocked about how little customers I see. As a human being I can enjoy fast seating, quick service and delicious food on demand but come on! This place is so bomb there should be a line outside the door! It blows my mind how people havenât found out about this secret. I know it may sound like someone paid me to write this based on all the hurrahs but they deserve them. I donât even know where to begin!!
Fresh. Super fresh juicy seafood. Generous portions. Average price. Who doesnât love Asian food?! Best catfish bites Iâve ever had. Kids corn dog meal is my daughterâs favorite. What Asian seafood joint sells fried cheese?! Always empty. Hopefully not anymore even though Iâd hate to wait .. I donât want this place to go out of business like many have. Thatâs how much I LOVE them!
Just when you though I was done. There are two more things you absolutely have to know about. Maybe 3.
They have this house sauce thatâs Thai cuisine based that goes on everything. Itâs so popular that they sell it bottled. Itâs their spin on what every Thai family has by the gallon in their fridge on standby. So I hear. That sauce had me crawling back there on my knees like someone put me on a leash and dragged me there.
I have to tell you about my favorite dish of all times. Itâs called salt and pepper calamari. Itâs crispy fried squid with slices of jalapeño on a bed of fresh cabbage and carrot with sautĂ©ed sweet onion and topped with dried shallots. I too that with spicy house sauce (Tarzan sauce) and yes, I think about it for days. Itâs a generous portion and thatâs all I usually eat besides tasting things from hubby.
There is also a whole ordeal with crawfish by the pound happening seasonally that j donât get into. Just letting you know.
Bottom line. This is Michelin amazing.
One thing that I will mention that would make this place better is ranch. Iâd throw their ranch in the trash and start over. Ranch is important. I donât like anything that tastes like mayo when itâs supposed to be used for dipping. This is who has amazing ranch. Pluckers and...
