Used to frequent Whip In pretty often about 7-8 years ago w/ some baseball teammates of mine after games. This was my first time back in many years, and I was looking forward to it. Came in after a Friday night baseball game just looking to grab some food to go since I was flying solo. I checked google to make sure they were still open, and to my delight, they were open til 11 pm. Got there at 9:35. Sat at the bar. Told the bartender that I was going to order some food to go, but would grab a beer while I waited. She poured me a beer while I checked the menu, which seemed to be the same as years prior. Saw what I wanted and was ready to order almost immediately, but the bartender had since disappeared. After a couple minutes, she came back, and I tried to get her attention, but she didn't look in my direction. She then assisted the only other two patrons at the bar, so I waited patiently until I could get her attention. I finally did and told her what food I wanted. As I was ordering, she simply said, "kitchen's closed" and walked away. Never saw her again. Hungry and confused, I just sat there and finished my beer. The patron sitting at the bar a few seats over from me then ordered some food (and got it) 5 minutes after me. It's too bad that Whip In, like so many Austin staples, has seemingly plummeted in recent years. I was about to spend over $100 on food and beer to go. I was also going to bring 12-15 of my teammates there to drink and eat after our next game. Guess we'll have to go somewhere else that wants our money instead. The 1 star is for the Whip In of many years ago.
Edit: after reading a bunch of reviews, it seems like I actually dodged a bullet by the miserable bartender not taking...
Read moreI must've gone here on a bad night, because although they have a great food and beer/wine selection, the service was so bad that I'm hesitant to go back. My friends and I waited a long time at the bar with no luck, so followed a man who ordered a beer (successfully) at the register. I asked about the beer on special and was told by the server "I'm really only supposed to be taking food orders", I responded "Oh, I'm sorry, can I still order this beer here or do I need to move to the bar" to which she responded "well, do you want to order a beer or do you want to talk about beer?!" Wow!! Later around 10pm my friend tried to order food from the same woman who responded "the kitchen's closed" in a very curt tone. One of my friends asked a male server, "what's this wine?" when ordering and was told brusquely "I don't know, never tried it". The whole time I felt like I was offending someone, and the staff clearly were overwhelmed (which is funny because it was not particularly busy). They also were very quick to start stacking chairs with people still standing around them starting at 11:30. Overall it made you feel like the staff really wished you weren't there at all- which I understand from working service jobs- but maybe try not to make it so obvious! Again, first time here, might be willing to go back and give it another try, but it really left me wondering who is...
Read moresomething told me NOT TO EAT HERE but i really wanted Indian food and i remember whip in from a previous incarnation having more to do with it's name.
no place on here did i see that on Sunday afternoon it is a buffet of what appeared to be leftovers from the weekend.
they had the nerve to charge me 14.00 and then 2.15 more for a diet Coke and immediately started closing the buffet.
i didn't come here to eat at a buffet in the first place. esp not one with left over UN LOVED food and i felt that they should have told me what was going on so i could decline to eat but no.
they took my money and only then did i find that there was nothing left to eat.
sad. icky. hard to chew.
i will never come here again.
this hurt my ❤️. i had really been in the mood for Indian food.
i just got out of hospital and only weigh 95 lbs atm and I'm starving now and cannot afford to pay to eat again. esp good Indian food
so i am just sitting in the parking lot crying and wishing that i had never come.
when i asked for my money back so i could go eat for real; the guy acted like he couldn't hear me.
i am sad and hungry and I'm starting to feel sick at my stomach from the one bite of ROCK hard naan
if anyone cared or even paid attention they would notice stuff like this... i get the feeling they don't care.
esp about an old lady...
