A Day of Feasting in Miami

A Day of Feasting in Miami

TLDR: Overall great classic sushi and flavor. Pretty affordable at $3.15 per plate. The wait time can be long even on weekdays and the conveyer belt is gonna be empty if you're sat at the end of the line. Otherwise you can order your own sushi whenever you want and that's a great/fun experience too. Don't recommend the other food (rice, etc). ---- Overall really great place with unique structure. The restaurant not only has conveyer belt sushi, but conveyer belt private ordering. There's almost no waiters as a robot delivers basic items to your table. You dispose your plates into a chute. The sushi is well made, beautiful, and flavorful. Each plate is ~$3, which honestly makes for an affordable dinner once you add it up. I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of sushi rolls, hand rolls, and overall food offered. I would really give this place 4.5⭐ because it's pretty fantastic minus a few things. One, there was 30-45min wait on a Tuesday night. I'm a little confused why so long, because half of the restaurants seating was open and the restaurant doesn't really use waiters. There might be a staffing issue with cooks (?) but I'm hesitant to try to come back here on a weekend when I normally eat out with that kinda wait for a Tuesday. Secondly, there's only one conveyer belt running. So if you're unfortunately sat at the end of the line, you will get empty plates only. We had only 3-4 plates actually in the conveyer belt system our entire dinner - we ended up ordering each sushi roll on our own. That kinda ruined part of the experience, but that said, we realized some of the plates in the belt are really old and it let us customize what we got. So it ended up fine, but don't expect to be picking plates off the conveyer belt if you're sitting at the end of the belt.

If you want a single, Counter Seat, there are only 4 available. All of the other booth/tables seem to seat 4. This is one of the more modern types of conveyor - sushi restaurants that also have capsule toy rewards. They have a limited, fixed menu that you can wait for as the belt moves around the bottom, or you can use the tablet to order and get served directly on the top belt. The sushi comes as 1 or 2 pieces per plate. Handrolls seem to be the largest. You pay by the plate and the standard price is about $2.65 with specialty items a bit more. If you want one of the capsule toys, you need to get at least 15 plates for around $50.00. Most of the dishes are raw seafood with some beef, fruit, vegetables, and sweets options. They make a shio style, red miso soup with green onions. (I prefer the less salty white miso with wakame.) Your condiments are course ground wasabi (spicier than normal), white pickled ginger, and a unique soy sauce dispenser that keeps you from drowning your food in the brown stuff. The garlic rice was tasty as well. The rest of the sushi seemed mediocre at best. The "torched" items were no more charred or browned than the regular version. Because the menu is fixed and limited, the chefs working behind the scenes are unable to show their skills or creativity. If you want the "Modern Tokyo" conveyor belt sushi experience, then this place fits the bill. If you are looking for better quality and more choices, then there are other conveyor belt sushi restaurants.

UPDATE 11/27/24

The last straw! After several months we thought we would try again. We were wrong to think things would improve, in fact, quite the opposite.

The first thing you notice when you walk in the door is that your feet stick to the floor. It seems the robot spills the drinks, I guess they can't keep the floors clean.

Service? What service. The call server button is worthless and to get a response from the server was almost painful.

Food? Again, choices limited. I guess it was salmon night, pretty much not much of anything else. Ordering from the tablet, well they couldn't even get that right.

Anyway, we didn't expect that they could do worse, but we were wrong.

We will never visit this location again nor would we ever recommend that you do!

UPDATE 07/2024

We have visited this location numerous times. It has become disappointing to eat here. While the selections are still tasty, the problem has become the lack of selection. Once of the biggest draws for us was the unique selections. That seems gone, at least two visits in a row.

After visiting other locations in California and Orlando, the Aventura location has a lot of catching up to do.

We are going to pause our visits for the near future, maybe we'll try again in the future. We have plenty of selections closer to home that are better priced and offer better portions for the money.

Previous review:

Unique sushi experience, service and food is generally good, rice needs to be packed a bit tighter, and this is a constant over several visits.

Good selections, some items not generally seen at regular sushi shops. The drinks robot is a good gimmick, and the conveyor belt delivery adds some fun to the experience.

The biggest issue with this place is the price, can easily be close to double what you would pay at an all you can eat sushi buffet. It's worth a visit, just don't go very hungry...

I reviewed Kura back in August 2023, but I need to write a new review; So I deleted the old review(old review posted below). I gave Kura a try once again because I loved their Tantanmen. For short, my girlfriend and I had a bowl of Tantanmen each. The noodles were undercooked so much that the noodles were still clumped together. The broth also had a weird taste this time. I'm not one to send food back, so just figured that the ratios making the Tare were a bit off. We both finished our bowls; however, we had an immediate stomach ache. By the time my girlfriend and I got home, she immediately threw up the noodles as soon as she opened the car door. I then threw up as well as soon as I got to the bathroom. We ate the ramen yesterday, and we STILL have a slight stomach ache. It's very very sad watching Kura degrade in quality. Sorry, but I can now say that I'm no longer coming back to Kura. If you're coming here for the sushi, don't even THINK about going during the week. Go during a weekend when there's A LOT more sushi options available.

My Review from August, 2023: I would LOVE to give this place 5 stars. Trust me, I really do. The revolving sushi bar always has a lot of tasty options, and the service is nearly always on point. My only issue lately is the quality of the ramen. I would come here at least once a month JUST for their Tantanmen. It used to be SO so good. Now when I go, the egg and pork are always cold, and the noodles are always too al dente. It completely ruins the dish and it’s a bit sad seeing a place you enjoy so much downgrade in quality over the years. Maybe it was after the pandemic? Who knows, but one thing is that I’m probably no longer going to be coming here as often as I used to. Instead, I’m probably only coming now just to show friends and family that are new to Miami a cool/unique spot to eat. Food: 3 | Service: 4 | Atmosphere: 5 3...
