Sabor Mazatlan — Restaurant in Avon

Absolutely love this place! Located in a strip mall the parking can get a little crowded during peak times but there's plenty of spots nearby. My wife doesn't have mexican food very often at all but we were in the mood to try something different after several trips to Avon/B.C.

I could tell this it was going to be a good experience after we sat down and they gave us chips with amazing salsa and some queso to boot! The menu has beautiful pictures of the food and they have a lot of really interesting choices to try.

We went with the Adobada whole fried fish, the carne asada dinner, an order of the shrimp ceviche, and some horchata to drink. Starting with what we liked least, the shrimp ceviche was just too tart. Even after letting it settle a bit it tasted too much like biting into a fresh lime and the citrus was just overwhelming.

Luckily the fish was extremely good! Having a whole fish come out is nothing unusual for Chinese cuisine so we dug right in. The outside was nice and crispy and the meat was tender and juicy. It was seasoned well and we really enjoyed it.

The carne asada was also great! I would say it's a little lighter on the marinade/seasoning than many I've had but all told it was very good.

Absolutely criminal business practices here. Ordered a large meal for 10. Employee over the phone was continually distracted during order. She repeated the order back to me while I was looking at our handwritten order. She repeated it back perfect. My wife picked the order up and was told we ordered SIX orders of steak fijitas. My wife was aggressively told YOU SAID THIS and was told you must pay. She was intimidated and gave in. This was obviously a money grab. Lady absolutely would not admit a mistake had been made on their end and refused any type of resolution when I called and confronted them. Weended up paying $300 for Mexican food for 10 people. The food is good - pretty legit. Prices are on the upper end but not terrible. Staff was slammed and I think any operations that were in place fell apart cuz we had a pretty long wait before someone asked if anyone had taken our order (which they hadn’t). I was disappointed in the Kelly margarita that was promoted as they’re top seller. Says they use fresh lime juice and I only tasted pretty bad pre-mix. The kicker that people should know is there is a 3.5% fee if you pay w credit card. Wish I had known before they ran my card as I had cash and would have used that instead. Even charged us $0.99 when I asked for more lime to add to my mediocre margarita. A little nickle and dimey...
