We will not be returning to this property. Where to start? I'm not sure why these are referred to as "villas"... it's a hotel. Not a resort. There's nothing luxurious about it, aside from the views. The very fact that there is no A/C is sacrifice enough, but I didn't expect the amenities to be so limited, which is somewhat on us. We took a last minute trip for business and pleasure. Avon is one of our favorite places. We've previously stayed at the Westin Resort (highly recommended). The rooms here at Sheraton are LOUD. Because there is no AC, we were forced to have the one window and patio door open. Didn't realize how close the freeway was in terms of noise pollution. You can hear trucks flying by all night. The fans are going a million miles an hour, which are also loud. You're blasting the TV if you want to hear it over the freeway and fans. We could not use the fan in the bedroom because it was halfway out of the ceiling, and was afraid it would fall. We could hear the neighbors (mostly on their patio). Metal chairs on the patios, so the dragging is loud and obvious. Additionally, since there is a kitchenette but no stove, they have grills on the tiny patios. Problem with that is the patios are super close to each other. Our neighbors were grilling and the smoke was blowing into our patio and room. So we could not sit out in that instance, nor did we have the door open. Probably not the best idea to have grills but that depends on your preference (and the wind). There is no connectivity to the TV. It lists Netflix, but you cannot access it. We called downstairs (no answer of course) and had to go down to sort this out. No solution. There is a DVD player, but no DVDs (and who travels with them). You might be able to connect your computer to the TV if you think to bring your own cords for that (they don't have them). We respect their attempt to deal with covid but please note that they have only a few elevators, and are allowing one household or individual per elevator ride. You may be waiting 10 min for an elevator if they're busy. The only thing that was convenient during this trip is parking. No room service (not due to covid -- just didn't have it anyway). Additionally, it seems that no one was working for the 4 days we were here. We saw the same woman at the front desk the entire time, somehow. If we needed anything, no answer. We may have left something in the room, but til present day (2 weeks later), we still have not received a call back regarding our items. We chose this hotel because we've been Marriott members for years and always book through them for points, and this trip was last minute. We know better now, to stick with the...
Read moreThe room was nice but this place has no air conditioning for guest rooms. There's a little placard above the thermostat that explains that you should use "nature's air conditioning" by opening up the windows at night. Sure, I get it, it's Avon Colorado so there should be cool mountain air that could circulate into your room, so long as you use the two fans that they provide to you in the master bedroom closet. Then there's the whole privacy issue, my wife and I were glad that we were on the 6th floor as we felt fairly confident that nobody could see us through the open patio door and master bedroom windows that we had to keep that way in order to circulate the "cool mountain air". If we were on any lower levels, there's no way we would have been comfortable with keeping our heavy blackout curtains wide open for air circulation as we walked around in our guest "villa". These are the same heavy blackout curtains that the thermostat instructions talk about keeping closed during the day in order to keep your room cooler. As I walk down the halls during the day to go back and forth to my room, there were other guests in other rooms, who were keeping the door to their room wide open from the hallway in order to get good air flow. The entire atmosphere reminded me of a hotel that I would expect in a dilapidated part of Mexico somewhere. Even the people in Avon who are locals, have told me that they feel that the Vail Valley Colorado area has been getting warmer and warmer each year. This review is meant to be factual. The facts are that during my stay it was very warm during the summer in Avon Colorado. The temperature can get up into the mid 90's, with lows in the mid-70s at night. For someone who likes to keep cool when they sleep this can be very difficult. I was on the 6th floor of this hotel looking out at other hotels across the street that appear to be lesser priced per room. They have air conditioning vents under every window of their guest rooms. This was difficult to watch as I knew the price for my room was $250 a night! The only good part about this is that I didn't have to pay for the room as I was there on a business trip and the company that I was supporting was picking up this tab. This place gets two stars because it was very clean and the people there were easy to deal with. We had a very small maintenance issue that I brought to the attention of the front desk and it got fixed very quickly. Otherwise this would be a one-star review because of the lack of air conditioning and uncomfortable sleeping conditions that I had to endure during my stay there...
Read moreTravelling with my young daughter and wife, as well as another couple when we stayed at this hotel in early September 2021 for three nights. The weather ended up being perfect, so the lack of AC did not both us (though it did catch us off-guard). Great front desk staff, very accommodating and friendly and the hotel is located in a good spot with easy parking, and proximity to stores (including a grocery store), restaurants and a park that our daughter loved to play on. The common areas and amenities offered at the hotel were nice and the rooms were reasonably spacious with most of the appliances/conveniences you would want in the compact kitchen. For the money, it was a great value.
While we generally enjoyed our stay, there were things which contributed negatively to our experience and most could be relatively easily improved upon. The TVs in both of the rooms we had lacked any wifi/smart TV capabilities (this was the first time in probably 7 years I have had a scrolling TV guide with no wifi built into the TV), they did not offer housekeeping during the stay, the beds were rather firm and not so comfortable, the dishes were dirty when we checked in and had to be recleaned (luckily there was dishwasher, so not that much work for us), and they did not offer benefits for Marriott Platinum/Titanium Elite members. As it stands, there is no reason to choose a Sheraton/Marriott vacation club property overy any other property, nor is there incentive to book directly rather than through a third party given the lack of benefits for elite members. One other drawback was the location itself, which is generally great, however it is near a busy highway so for most of the day/night you would hear cars driving by if you kept your windows open (which is almost required when staying here outside of the winter due to the...
