When my husband and I began planning our son’s first birthday party during the time of the COVID-19 pandemic, we weren’t really sure where to begin. We knew that the celebration would have to be limited to a small number of people, but also wanted to be sure that we were able to keep the party as socially distanced as possible. Based off of our previous experience with Swensons as well as the variety that the menu offers, we decided to give the Avon, Ohio location a call only a few days before the party.
That was the best decision we could have made.
The shift manager, Anthony, referred me to the general manager, TJ. I have worked with many restaurants and caterers in the past, and TJ’s customer service skills really takes the cake. He was so positive and organized from the minute we first spoke on the phone. I could tell that he loved his work, and was ready to work with me to create the safest celebration possible.
TJ was immediately on the same page about our catering order for 13 people having as little “touch points” as possible. He was easy to work with to place our specific orders, and was in communication with me if he needed any clarification or had any questions.
The day before the party, TJ called me, and I wrongly assumed that there was a problem. What he was actually calling about was to ask my permission to put my son’s name on their sign. I was thrilled! What a special thing for a first birthday! He sent over a picture when it was up so we were able to head over to take pictures to remember this special day.
On the day of the party, I went to pick up the food. Everything was ready at the time I requested it, and it was so neatly packaged in bags according to how they had been ordered. Every order was perfect from the food items to the specific condiments requested. The food was hot and fresh, so I knew that it had been carefully timed out. Everyone was so impressed! Along with the bags of food that were delivered to my car, TJ and Anthony also had a gift bag in hand. Attached to the gift bag was a nametag that said “Trainee” with my son’s name printed out on it as well as gifts that they had purchased to make his birthday even more special. I was floored! I would have never expected that gesture, and their customer service was more than I could have ever imagined.
Later that afternoon, TJ reached out to me to ensure that everything had been as we ordered, everyone enjoyed their food, and to wish my son happy birthday again from his “Swensons family.” I was impressed from the first time I spoke with TJ until that last interaction on the afternoon of the party, and he kept outdoing himself. Read moreWe came from the beach with our dog and arrived VERY thirsty. Our server came up right away to take out order and I requested a few minutes to review the menu and asked for a bowl of water (I offered to pay extra...twice) for my very thirsty dog. He said he would grab the water and be back to take our order.
Ten minutes later after waiting in our 90+° car, the server (last name Rodriguez) returned without the bowl of water. He did take our order and I asked (again) for a bowl of water for our dog. He apologized for forgetting the first time and went off to get it and put in our order.
About 25 minutes go by before he comes back with our food and drinks. My fiance thinks it was more like 35 min...
Our server did not bring the water (again) and it's still more than 90 degrees in our hot vehicle. By this time we had been waiting inside the car for close to 35-45 min. My poor dog. I asked again for the bowl of water and also a side of mustard for my tater tots. Our drinks were pretty much melted. But at least we had them... Finally. We were all so darn thirsty too!
The server never returned with the water or mustard. I waited at least ten more minutes for him to come back. We finished our food and he never came back even by that time. When we left we had been there about an hour total. Not cool for fast food, especially not cool when I couldn't even get drinks or water on a very hot ninety plus degree day.
We won't be back. Terrible service and my food wasn't even that great, especially without the condiments I asked for and didn't get.
My fiance ordered a root beer float and got a cup of root beer (ice was pretty much melted by the time he got it) and a side bowl with one tiny baby scoop of vanilla ice cream to put in the float. So that was a joke in and of itself. And not a funny one you would laugh at.
This place was the biggest disappointment with the lack of proper service, lack of being able to pay for AND actually get a small bowl of water when we waited over 30 min to get drinks and food. Our poor dog never got the water, my shake was melted and I doubt we will ever go back.
The server didn't deserve the $5.00 tip we left. Making people wait outside for food when it's 90+° outside for more than 30 min is unacceptable. Refusing to bring simple orders is unacceptable.
I took my dog to get water near by. It's a shame he had to wait more than 60 min for such a simple thing such as water especially when I asked to pay for it. A few times!
This happened yesterday and I am still upset about this visit! The staff really needs better training! Or at least our server...
Read moreOne of the worst dining experiences my family has had to memory. We arrived before the dinner rush to only a few cars. All menu items are a la cart unless you get a “dinner” which I believe includes fries. The menu lists “Kids Favorites” which I thought would be a typical kids meal, however I had a mutiny in my back seat when no fries accompanied their hot dog or chicken tenders. We waited 45 mins to receive our meal, at which time I did not receive my burger. Cars on either side of us had already come and gone! The gentleman who brought our food out asked what I had on my burger (our original server, who was a trainee did not) so I assumed it hadn’t been put in at all and there would be a rush on it. I tried to be understanding with the trainee but after my entire family had already eaten, and twenty minutes had past we flagged down another server who ended up being the “head server” is what she told us and we explained how ridiculous the wait time was and I wanted the burger off of the bill because we never received it. She offered to put in the order again and I said that after waiting that long I just wanted to leave. Low and behold my burger came out from our original server and he told me I owed him $2.60. My burger was room temperature and mediocre, at best. Our entire experience took an hour and a half!
