Agate Restaurant — Restaurant in Bainbridge Island

We got outdoor seating for dinner so I can’t speak for what the service is like indoors. Food at this place was okay and nothing spectacular. Small portions of food so more or less on the expensive. CUSTOMER SERVICE STINKS HERE! There was no checking on our table to see how the dining experience was going or if we wanted refills on drinks. The straw that broke the camels back for me was how long it took for them to bring our bill even after we requested it. The bill came back and it even took longer for them to come back for us to pay. The nerve of the waitress at the front desk to give my wife an attitude when we requested that they bring our bill for us to pay. I definitely would not recommend this place and I would not be coming back. I’ve dined at much better restaurants but please educate your disrespect employees on how to treat customers. The experience was mixed. Had a reservation but ended up in the back quite near the busy kitchen door and exit to restrooms. Things started well, and the waitress was great. Unfortunately, the main course arrived ~40 min after the salad course finished and was taken away with no hint of why. Naturally, some near by diners who were seated later had meals arrive in a timely/correct fashion. And while the Halibut was cooked just right the hummus base was very so-so and cold, which may have been intentional, but made the entrée disappointing, and certainly for the cost. This precipitated a desire to call it an evening, skip any further beverages or dessert and just move on. It just seems the trend for this level of dining boils down to serendipity on the food quality and timing for diner but certainty on the cost being $$$$ for the restaurant. We’ve previously visited Agate and we had a good experience. However the second time going, the service was terrible, especially with foreigners. Tall, cocky waitress is absolutely incapable of engaging with other cultures (mind I’m American, my guests came to visit). The staff needs to get together and tighten up on customer service, kindness and to better embrace the essence of Bainbridge which prides itself on openness. Honestly so disappointed. The food was not on par with last time, long waits, bland. The appetizers were excellent though. Biggest issue? The service.
