Black Bear Diner Bakersfield — Restaurant in Bakersfield

I had dinner there tonight around 6:30 pm an I ordered what was I thought way too expensive 1st we ordered coffee was very old strong an barely warm that we got served in dirty cups with food an lipstick on them so we asked y it was so strong the waiter said I promise it's fresh it was not so the 2nd cup tasted normal an was hot in our clean cups went to stir creamer in it an discovered our spoon fork an knife in both bundled in napkins both sets of utensils were all 6 dirty I ordered steak an eggs around 30.00 an I asked for poached eggs whites done yolks runny I got what looked like hard boiled an cold steak I asked for it pink not bloody got it way passed well done it was so over cooked soi sent it back an again said I just dont want it bloody got it well done again an cold eggs an hashbrowns were hard cold an burned I got biscuit an gravy with it biscuit was really good gravy super salty an barely a spoon of gravy on this big biscuit so I asked for a little extra gravy when it wasn't enough for half a small one let alone ahuge one So they charged me a dollar for the gravy so I ate 2 bites maybe 3 of everything n I told the server when he asked how everything was I said worst meal I've ever had so general manager came ntook 5 bucks off the 65.00 bill then they looked shocked had attitude when I didn't tips u kidding me rude awful service an my guest dinning with me asked for extra butter on sourdough toast n got white bread no butter n the server let out a ugh when he was asked very nicely to plz bring some butter which he tossed down on the table an through it all we were never rude so I paid 60.00 dollars for food I only basically was able to stand only enough to taste had been out running errands all day was tired n hungry so I just paid left n didn't eat I have crohns n when I get upset I can't eat after I hadn't eaten all dayto say the least I'll never go back and personally I would've been satisfied with only charging me 5.00for my meal an taking someone for dirty dishes old gross coffee rude services n less then ok cook that obviously can't cookoh wait I had ice water was the best thing I had an even it had floating particles n it an had to ask for 2 new clean glasses of ice...

Last night (11-25-19) my family and I went to black bear diner, we noticed it was pretty busy. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by a server named Jae who attended us, he led us to a clean table as I requested. He was friendly and presentable, right away he started with our drink orders and told us he would be back as soon as possible for our meal order. We waited for about 6-7 min. for him to come back so we could place our order. My wife and I noticed how busy Jae was and it seemed that he was the only waiter working at the time, when Jae returned he was friendly and calm, considering navigating all around the restaurant, he was also very knowledgeable about the menu, we had a few questions about the menu since we hadn't been there in a while, but he walked us through it and even suggested great food choices for us. He was very patient with us and always kept a smile, he took our order and continued to make his way throughout the restaurant. We waited quite a while for our food to get to us, but as busy as the restaurant was that night and what seemed to look like a skeleton crew we understood. Other then the waiting our overall experience was great thanks to Jae positive and great customer service. I was kinda surprised when he came by to apologize for the wait and thanked my wife and I for being so understanding, It wasn't necessary, but we appreciate him saying that. For what we could see he was doing the best he could with the amount of guest he had to attend to, before last night we had been to black bears couple of times, but because of Jae we will become regulars. Thanks again Jae keep up the hard work, and thank you black bear for hiring people like Jae. We will be come back...

After working at a different Black Bear, you have a general idea of how things should be. Unfortunately this Black Bear failed to deliver. With the exception of the host who was very friendly and talkative, the server that served us was inattentive and our food, mainly my friends, was unsatisfactory. He ordered the French dip and the meat was dried out and rubbery, almost like beef jerky, the fries were soggy like they been cooked and reheated. My meal fortunately was a lot more edible despite my shrimp being overcooked and way too crunchy. I worked in kitchens and should know how food should be cooked. The server was more attentive to talking to her coworkers instead of attending us. It may not have been busy but no reason to ignore your customers. Plus the bathroom was not very clean, especially the urinal. The only shining spot was the host who was very friendly and had a conversation. Very disappointed. I loved working at the Black Bear I was at and missed the food. I thought maybe going to this one would bring back the nostalgia for me but unfortunately it did not. The only thing that brought back memories was the cute bear merch. Maybe at night it’s bad and maybe the morning it’s better but in any case, I’m not coming back. I’ll go to the one at the Outlets, since I used to work there and know I won’t be disappointed because everyone I used to work with is still there.
