Atmosphere was Quant with many small cozy rooms. Older building with a family like feel. Music was rock and roll and too loud. I asked them to change it or turn it down, I was told no. It was cold in the blue room in the back. Don't know why we weren't seated in the red room which has a fun cozy feel, and was heated.
Wait staff service was ok. Waiter was polite, and came around to us one after our order, but it was very difficult to understand him and he wasn't comfortable projecting his voice.
Food - not good. I ordered the Chicken Lorenzo which on their paper menu indicates that it is "Fired chicken". I was imagining chicken that was grilled or blackened, or cooked over a fire source. Brick fire stoves are very common in Italian restaurants and never in my mind did I imagine that a restaurant as successful as this one appeared, would have a typo that would not be fixed prior to printing and laminating. I received a dish of FRIED chicken and was very disappointed. I didn't complain. After I left, I walked outside and double checked the menu outside and it said "fried". Thinking that I was going crazy, I went back inside the read the menu left on the tables, and sure enough.... It said "F I R E D". I put 2 and 2 together and realized it was a typo ( after I didn't eat my dish) and told the manager so that they could fix it. I was trying to be helpful. He did not apologize initially, instead he defended the menu, stating that the word "Alfredo" was also misspelled. He was not very good at managing and I was really turned off by his approach. I said that I wished that I hadn't ordered it, and that part of my meal should be refunded. He said sorry and continued talking about how they do a great job rotating the menu to "keep things fresh" and that "typos" happen. And I told him that the typo literally changed the meaning of the meal, and that it could be a health concern for someone who shouldn't eat fried food. He said ok, in a dismissive way, and kept doing what he needed to at the host station. I then repeated myself that I shouldn't have to pay for that specific item on my bill and it was ONLY then, that he looked over at a well dressed patron who just walked in ( whose business he likely didn't want to lose) that he told me to write down my name and phone number on paper. I have every reason to believe that I will not be receiving a phone call nor a return of the money for that one meal. I also will not ever dine here again because of this, and you should think twice also before giving them your business.
To give a full honest review of the food... Rose sangria, was fresh, but overly sweet.
The garlic bread was delicious, but only 4 small slices.
The meatballs with marsala sauce was far too sweet and the mushrooms tasted of red wine only, nothing Savory about them. The meatballs themselves were extra cheesy and had no flavor of meat, but only cheese. The Chicken Lorenzo was falsely advertised, and the sauce was NOT a marinara marsala blend. It was straight up thin masala sauce, and it was absolutely terrible tasking. Very sweet, and nothing Italian about it. The Pasta Corleone dish was good. It was the only thing that was moderately enjoyable. The dish could have been accentuated with a bit more of the canned tomatoes and some fresh Basil...
Read moreI want to start by saying my reasons for giving this establishment the rating that I did. The food was amazing. The presentation of each plate was attractive, and the flavor and amount of food was to die for. The environment was cozy, beautiful and warming. When making and communicating our reservation needs over several phone conversations with the host it was nothing but pleasant. We were a large group, which I believe, made it difficult for the waiter to provide outstanding service, We were not irate nor drunk, nor impatient, just a group of women looking to receive a fine dining experience.
However, the experience was not quite the way we had expected. It is my opinion that the waiter was new or had no experience servicing a large party. Although he was nice enough to break the bills down into four groups he was not capable getting the correct meals grouped together after three attempts. We literally had to write out the groups of meals to assist.
Two members of our group ordered the same meal that did not display that it was spicy, and upon inquiring about it and one particular individual wanted to have it the meal taken off the bill and replace with another meal. The request was denied, and we had to pay for the meal and the replacement meal. The manager refused to take the meal off the bill; I decided to relieve the individual of stress and paying for a meal that she would pay for and not eat, so I offered to pay for it with the conditions that I could take it to go. A new meal was received and according to the group member it was delicious and to her satisfaction, which made me happy.
When receiving the bill both meals were on the receipt, but I had to ask the waiter three times where is my meal to go since I paid for it? When they packaged the meal, because of the amount of food, which was great, they packed it all in two small containers that were overflowing with juice from the meal. By the time I got back to my destination, the bag was soiled with liquid, it ripped and the favorable bowl juice was everywhere, including on me. I was disappointed in this part of our experience. However, because of all the things mentioned in the beginning of this post, I would return again but now I know what to expect. I decided to give this restaurant a review because I want to let you know what you could expect and how to prepare for it. This experience will not stop me from returning again because the majority of my experience was pleasant, and again, the food was amazing; I recommend you give them a try on the food and environment alone. And hopefully you will have a better waiter who can handle a big group. I do want to add that he was trying his best was not rude and kept apologizing. Kudos to him for that.
We kinda of felt sorry for the waiter/waitress, which is why we offered to help sort out the bills correctly. This was kind of frustrating however, keep in mind each bill included the 20% tip. Honestly, we would’ve given additional tip had the services and the manager’s decision were different.
Amicci’s of Little Italy is a very fine establishment; I recommend the manager reconsider their policy on meal returns or have the waiter/waitress or menu clearly reveal to the customers which meals are spicy, especially with a...
Read moreThe Pane Rotundo IS A MUST!!!!!!!! But an Unexpected Wrinkle in the Service
Let me start by saying: The undisputed star of our meal was the Pane Rotundo—a round, buttery half loaf of toasted Italian bread filled with succulent jumbo shrimp in a creamy garlic sauce. One bite and we were hooked. We talked about that dish every single day afterward—it’s that unforgettable.
We also loved that the portion sizes for lunch matched dinner-sized servings, which made the experience feel generous and thoughtful. Pro tip: Go for lunch—you’ll get all the flavor and ambiance with a relaxed pace and great value.
Now, we did hit a snag. We ordered a pitcher of sangria, expecting the fruit-forward, wine-infused flavor that typically defines the drink. What we received, unfortunately, was more akin to flavored water—no wine presence at all. We mentioned this to the staff, and initially, we were pleased to see that the same gentleman, the manager who had greeted us so warmly upon arrival came to address our concern.
But to our disappointment, his demeanor had changed significantly. Gone was the warmth and welcome; in its place was a tone that felt dismissive and unkind. He approached the table with his hand on his hip, his voice curt, and his attitude left us uncomfortable enough that we considered not returning—despite how good the food was.
To be fair, he did remove the sangria from our bill, and we absolutely appreciate that. It’s just that—as we all know—it’s not always what you say, but how you say it. That interaction cast a bit of a shadow on what was otherwise an outstanding culinary experience. Thankfully, our server was wonderful, and we made sure to tip her well in appreciation.
Would we go back? For that Pane Rotundo… quite possibly. But we hope that the management reflects on how impactful tone and attitude are to guests—especially those who arrive with excitement and leave with mixed emotions.
If you’re a foodie, especially a garlic-lover, Amici’s absolutely deserves a visit. Just know that while the kitchen is serving excellence, hospitality is just as important to...
