My table had the picante taco nachos with steak, fish tacos, enchiladas de mole, and a chimichanga. The prices were fair. We were given some chips and salsa to start with. The chips were good but the salsa had very large, random chunks of tomato throughout and was not spicy whatsoever.
The nachos were tasty-- we enjoyed the steak and loved the queso, but wish there were more queso overall. We had quite a few "dry" nachos at the end because we ran out of toppings. There was absolutely no spice on the nachos-- they were mild.
The fish tacos were OK. Not spectacularly tasty but certainly not bad-- just an average fish taco. The rice and black beans that came with the tacos were delicious. The highlight of the meal was certainly the beans-- they were so flavorful!
The enchiladas de mole and the chimichanga were both good. Once again, the rice and beans were the best part for the enchilada dish!
The service was OK. We had a perfectly average experience. The salsa definitely needs more care and spice, and with a name like Picante Taco, I hoped there would be many more spice options, but nothing was beyond "mild" in spice. The Cholula on the table was the most spicy option presented. With improved service, more spice options, and more attention to details, I think this would be a really lovely Tex-Mex option...
Read moreFirst time visiting, as an out of Towner. Off the southern street of little Italy, it’s a great place to walk around and stop by for a quick bite. They are pretty fast in the kitchen.
One of my favorites in general is the traditional “street tacos” and they did not disappoint. I wanted to try a birria taco that’s originally as a combo of 3 tacos. I’ve never had one and asked if it was possible to try one, but not the entire combo (it would be too much food for me). They told me they couldn’t accommodate it every time because of the preparation. However, they went above and beyond and they made an exception for me. Ended up ordering a pollo, chorizo, and one birria taco.
Man it was goood, I wish I woulda gotten the 3 birrias as well, but my eyes are bigger than my stomach. Opted for a horchata and was probably in an out an 15/20 minutes.
Inside there’s plenty of seats, most seating about 4, but perhaps they could move tables around to accommodate a larger group. They are quite friendly here so I wouldn’t be surprised how else they might help.
Oh and they give you free chips and great salsa. What’s not to love! My server/host was Patricia, she was wonderful!...
Read moreWe went at 8:24pm on 9/24. The waitress was rude as hell. We asked about Taco Tuesday specials and she acted like we were speaking a foreign language… then she says “it’s two tacos and one free” with the nastiest attitude ever. Then she walked back in the kitchen. So we left and took our services next door to Angeli’s 🤷🏾♀️
9/27/2024- updating my review. Thank you to the owner and the shift manager- Josè (hope I’m spelling that right. If not I apologize, i just want to make sure I highlight him.) He was so nice and welcoming. As soon as we walked in he politely greeted us and gave us menus. He accommodated my order request for my chicken nachos. I wanted the ingredients separately. We also ordered Birria Tacos and a Tres Leches cake. This review is on the food I tried only. I didn’t want to try the Birria Taco because it didn’t look appealing and it was falling apart. My partner said she didn’t like it at all though. We both loved my nachos! They were so good and flavorful. I would definitely recommend the nachos. And I tasted the grilled chicken by itself and it was marinated to perfection. I will definitely be back. Yall better go...
